Hello all, long time lurker, first time caller. My name is Reese. I live in the Chicago burbs and gotten myself into the project for better or for worse. Been at it for a little while now but I am starting to need more technical help so here goes. Never built cars (or Jeeps for that matter) before. Lots of woodworking and simple mechanical work but most of this is new to me.

It is an 84 that was in the garage of the house my parents bought in Indiana. I wasn’t expecting to rebuild it from the ground up but it needed it so I jumped in with both feet.

Started tear down last winter and I have been slowly building back since. The plan is to have a resto-mod good for towing a small teardrop or off-road trailer or a small boat. The boat is also being built by me but it is on the shelf for now till the Jeep is done. 258 with T-176 and 3.54’s on 31’s. Seems like this should be a good combo for that.

Here are some pics to catch up and entertain. This is my wife who taught me how to drive a stick; keeperD76B089C-62C9-44F7-93AD-1B41A7B2FE4F.jpegD76B089C-62C9-44F7-93AD-1B41A7B2FE4F.jpeg9DA0E13C-70F8-4359-A15D-BFC91A56D788.jpeg023294C7-9EA6-4635-9C4A-B602AB2BC3E2.jpegC905A510-442C-4B17-9A85-1D4356700C0C.jpegF1CF0E61-298E-40EB-BCAB-1D527DF920B7.jpegBB1F60A9-6A9A-491F-8C81-072DD0DB737C.jpeg03FCBFDF-FE81-4FD5-880A-6EDC2BCE62AD.jpegA895225E-6031-4883-B094-A78212DF0CCA.jpeg25E7793F-4C5B-4D83-B0AD-D18C34D50670.jpeg17AFAD06-F0FF-4D94-B3F2-96419489BD85.jpeg

Looks like you are doing a great job! I think your driveline should do fine towing a small trailer with 31s. The extra width of the widetrack axles will be nice as well. Fellow woodworker here, you have a nice setup. Is that a sawstop?

Thanks! I liked the Saw stop and my fingers but I elected to go with the Laguna F3. The contractor saw would not keep up and I haven’t finished the resto on the Yates-American from 1955…. Normal people have three table saws right?

I've bought a few houses in my life but sure have never found anything nearly that cool in one. That looks like an awesome project. And great job so far! Great progress. 👍 Keep the pics coming.

Welcome and thanks for sharing… always cool to see others tackling a restoration. Looks like solid progress and love the wood engine stand, wood working skills there too…

LOL, yes everyone needs 3. Laguna makes some nice equipment. I have a 3 phase 1958 Delta Unisaw. Not super fancy but it does a nice job. All those DIY stands and rollers will make the resto much easier too.

Tapping threads for the billet clamps today. The brake line is a little too springy around the shock so I will need to add something. Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

Wow. Those billet clamps are beautiful. Where did you source those?

Looking forward to watching your build.

Summit Racing, Earls Performance Line clamps. Lots of variety there, 80 pages of billet clamps. Plan of doing similar in the engine bay too. Thanks, looking forward to making progress, was a slow summer.

Finished installing more brake and fuel line clamps today. Made a little bracket because the outer break line around the shock is pretty springy. This clamp setup helps but it is not great. The protective wrap around the lines is still very flexible and the way the clamps sit the just don’t grab much. Thoughts? Maybe just group some gasket maker or sealer in the clamp so it sets up and firms?

Also, that fuel tank was a bear. Something was miss aligned or bent. I needed two straps, two woodworking hand screws, one wife and a partridge and a pear tree to get that thing together. Narfed the powder coating a bit but its on. Hopefully parts back from the powder coater soon and engine and driveline installed after the first of the year.

Merry Christmas, Happy holidays and happy new year to all!74E8ADC9-3688-4078-9DD0-CCE46573BE4A.jpeg07936E58-AFF2-4039-BB7D-EF0EAE3C2B85.jpegFCD65D12-B014-47E5-BAAB-8EC83945F4D0.jpeg

more parts going on. Last few billet clamps on and still moving forward. Had to use cheapy bolts for the engine mounts for now, will replace when the goods come in from Totally Stainless, just wanted to keep moving forward
