Well, what can I say? After unexpectledly getting a chance to go there at the last minute, it turned out to be what I would consider the best time I have ever had at a 4wd event!
Just like last year, EVERYONE (and I mean..EVERYONE) there was just a great person to meet and talk to, and the fellowship there was as relaxed and genuine as you could imagine.
BIG....no make that HUGE....thanks go out to Mike (Scrangler) of 4x4Land in Topeka and to Mike (Kaiser8) who let me ride with them on Friday and Saturday. These guys are insane
and I learned tons just watching their driving skill and strategies (not to mention them anwering all my stupid questions). Oh, yeah, it was WAY fun, too! 
Don't let me forget to add that while Scrangler is a great driver, he has some in-house "competition" from EBBY, who followed him around and basically took and conquered every hard line that she tried!
Thanks to Scott Mine for taking me out on the night run! There's something about riding around in the woods in the dark in a built 4x4 with a couple of crazy guys from Louisiana that just can't be put into words!
And while I'm on the subject of folks from Lousiana, Scott, Brent, and Jim all did some entertaining driving all weekend, but they all brought their better halves with them (and Scott's niece), and the "Lousiana spice" that they brought to the whole event, on and off the trail was just great! Don't even ask me to start commenting on how awesome the etoufee was! (And Scott, thanks for the Boogie Mine "Flip Ya' Meat!"
On a personal note, it was nice to see Fernando out there again this year. His style on the trail is thrilling, to put it mildly (I'm sure Laurie would agree with that!)! He retooled his rig to avoid the death-defying antics we experienced last year, and swappped his shotgun rider from me to Laurie, so I'm sure he had a great trip and a great time!
Since I cancelled my hotel room when I didn't think I'd be able to make it, John N and Truck let me bunk up with them, and I really appreciate it. Thanks again, guys!
Of course, thanks goes out to all the folks who organized the event (you know who you are). I was especially impressed with the nightly picture and video presentation (Nice job Lee! and whoever else was behind it!)!
Sandra went above and beyond the call of duty again this year with registration, so she has served notice that Ed wants some company on the trails in the future so we are going to have to approach that differently next year. And Jeff once again did a nice job leading the group through the raffle and award presentation.
Ok, speaking of the raffle, you knew I had to address this at some point...for those of you that weren't there, I won more stuff that night than I have ever won in anytime in my entire life all combined! FiremanHank was the big repeat winner, winning many items, but I ended up with - among other things - a full STC top and a red-top Optima battery! Thanks VERY MUCH to the companies that donated the prizes and the SOA staff that made it all happen.
BTW, I think the stars just lined up for me this past weekend. In addition to all the great stuff I've written about here, I had an unusual flight experience on the way home. Long story short, the final flight leg to Richmond got delayed a couple of hours, then they threw a bunch of people headed to Baltimore on the plane, and decided that they weould take us to Balt before Richmond. So anyway, while we are sitting on the runway , they announce my name over the loudspeaker and have me come to the front of the plane. AS it turns out, a very nice lady who we have done some wrok for noticed that I was on the plane, saw that we were going to be on the plane for several hours, and then persuaded the flight staff to allow me to sit in the empty seat next to her in first-class!!!!! That, in a nutshell, is how my whole weekend went!
Anytime I ramble like this, I'm sure I'm leaving out names and conversations and people that helped to make the weekend special and I apologize for that (you know, like leaving out people like Matt Donaghy, Ken Waters, and the Benoits, who I always enjoy seeing). And having the chance to see the uniqueness of each rig and the way each person has built or restored it is incredible. But I want to let EVERYBODY there know that I enjoyed spending time with all of you, and if I had my way, I'd make it to every National Scramble I could in the future.
Well, that's all for now. My fingers are falling off from all this typing.

You know, I've been on a lot of jeep events but I have to say this was probably the one that I enjoyed the most. The people were fun, friendly and a bit on the crazy side which lead to a whole lot of fun wheelin'! It was nice to finally meet a lot of the people that Mike has talked about all year from last year's event. Really looking forward to seeing all of you again....EBBY

We hope that the both of you will be back next year!...........This is the one event besides Colorado i look forward to since i know you guys will be there as well as everyone else.........if ya'll could only hear Beth laughing when that back window came flying out off Mikes rig...............She said i had this look of horror on my face and i'm sure i did..............the rig was not even running when it came out................I offered to help put it back in at camp and Mike being the guy that he is said "don't worry about it"............I caught a little ribbing after Beth left about getting "out wheeled by her" which i have no problem with..........It wasn't the 1st time and won't be the last as Wildturkey found out the stories are true about Beth.............she is 100% wheeler and not afraid to use the skinny pedal...............as far as Scott and Kellie go................They are family and i'm proud to say that...........love those guys to death...............The friday night feast they put on was AWSOME!..........to say the least...............The whole weekend was great even without my rig and having a sinus infection...........the whole family was there............(scrambler and my personal family)...........food,fellowship,and wheelin' with friends is what it's about.............where else can you go and hang with friends that treat you like family...........let you trash their rig and still say it's been fun!.............Thanks to everyone and again thanks to Mike (scrangler) for letting me drive and break in his new winch and winch rope!

i'd like to Thank everyone for a great time.., it was well worth the 20 hour drive..
It was great pleasure to see my Compadre's Scott and Kelly again, they are truly like family to Lori and Me, their Crawfish Etoufee was marvelous and as always they were great and generous hosts .. I truly enjoyed meeting their family that came along, they are the nicest and we both laughed and ribbed each other about our accents, I took them to a Mexican grocery store and they bravely tried some of the fruits and foreign delicacies.., Kelly liked them but Casey and Lori made faces..., Brent and Kim were a hoot.., he's all Pedal-to-the Metal and she gets out and walks at every obstacle.. ha ha... needless to say both Brent and Jim (he's all business and quietly makes his way through anything...) did really well on the #5 trails, staying with us through it all..., thanks to Casey for capturing our wheel stand.. ,
Speaking of which.. on the first day I found that my newly installed radiator electric fans weren't cutting the mustard on keeping the engine cool, so early on I bailed out and spend the better part od the day finding and installing a flex fan.., at about 4 pm, I was itching for a ride, so Lee was pulling in and he directed me to the were the Big Boys were playing on their last #5 trail.., off we went.., joined them and had a good time.. however I did a lot of spinning because I'd forgotten to air down and was still running 25 lbs on the MTR's, then David took us to Twin Hills (I think) as the rest of the group was heading to camp.., and challenged me to go up with him.., so off he went on his awesome Zuki...., and we followed.., almost to the top, my wheels started spinning and we started to slide backwards.., so upon braking both front wheels came of the ground and we almost flipped backwards..., but didn't, David came running and sliding down.. and hollered "Don't Move!!!".., we winched a little ways up and kept climbing.., here's the funny part.. through it all.. Lori's baby Blues were just as wide as they could be .. but she didn't say a word.. Nada.. not a sound.., she's a trooper.. and just hangs on...
At the top.., she got out of the Jeep and headed for David.., whacked him.. and said.. "I've got two Babies at home!!!!.. and you led us up this???".. ha ha it was hilarious.., David just took it and grinned
.., what's a guy to do?, that was great..
I'm sorry that i missed the night run.., next year I'll have the running lights installed..
The second day was awesome.., we did well, and again almost flipped when trying to go up a muddy hill and my engine stalled as we we were fishtailing.. and slid back down sideways,
I enjoyed Brent's pedal to the metal antics.., and of course Scott's finesse in making all rocks look easy to climb...
True to nature.. some mishap had to come... on the way back.. almost home.. 200 miles away, by Roanoke.., the Diesel's tranny busted.., spilled it's fluid guts out all at once due to a main seal failure (I hope that's all it is...).., we limped to exit 141 on I-81, since it was already around 6 pm, we spent Sunday nite there, and on Monday got towed to the AAMCO place.., thank God for having AllState RVRoadhelp.., $99/year saved me a $250 towing fee..., by Monday afternoon we were home.., rented a Dodge 1500 5.7L Hemi pickup truck from Enterprise.., because they advised us not to leave anything on the truck's/Jeep/trailer's tool boxes as it's not the better part of town and they've had a lot of vandalism and break in's to vehicles.., I'm hoping for the best until I pick the rig up...
A favour to Ask.. for those who took Video or pics of Us, please forward/e-mail them, I will galdly reimburse for cost/postage if they are on tape or CD.

Yeah, that was pretty funny (I can say that because Mike (scrangler) also thought that it was funny)...I rode with Mike all day on Fri through some VERY wild stuff, no breakage, no problems. Then JC takes over the rig on Sat afternoon and almost immediately the rear window lets loose, it almost rolls, then gets stuck! I think this was one of those situations where, when something is not yours, you try to be extra careful with it but no matter what you do, weird things happen one after another! Prior to last week I had only met z, TxsBill (and TxsCrawler with kids), Stouttrout (and Kathy). The latter two families when I went on travel.
But I MUST say that each and everyone I met this week at the National event made me feel RIGHT AT HOME! Or even better still, like a true guest!
My SoCal family is your family! I would like to issue an invitation to each and every one of you to please let me know if, and when, you might be headed toward Southern California (or "SoCal" as we call it). Our group will "roll out the red carpet" and it will be our turn to treat you as a guest!
Please take this invitation seriously and TAKE ME UP ON IT!

Mike & BEth.... What can i say. Mike is a great teacher of wheelin tricks. Thanks. Beth she is just one of us. She is easy to talk to. Had an awesome time with y'all. That night run was AWESOME. I have never been on a night run then we did a 3 trail (gregs rocks) Man that was great. I was shaking i had so much adrenaline flowing.
MIke( wildturkey)... Great having you along for the night run. Even though you were a backseat driver. No just joking. We had fun that night and you were the party. Love to wheel with you again.
Mike (Kaiser8)... Great spotter !!!!!!! You gave the confidence i needed doing some of the harder obstacles and put me on the right line. Thanks for everything.
