Was this an original CJ-8 color or has it been painted and Laredo stripes added? If it was an original color does anyone have additional pictures of it? It is an interesting color combination.

Yeah I Sure hope not too ! :) Actually I know the history of this jeep it started out as a very rust free scrambler from the southwest but Jeff Daniels Jeep in Pennsylvania re did it for a guy who insisted on the purple color but everything else is nutmeg and the interior too. Hideous. But rust free.

That was the color of the original Scorpion addition Scrambler, but they ran out the purple paint because they sold sooo many and had to change the color to copper.

Hahahaha.

Speaking of original colors, my '81 CJ-8 SL has remnants of the factory paint remaining here and there. It was a deep maroon color; I have looked in vain for the paint code for that 1981 color. On the firewall, the code looks like "1EJ". Does anyone know if this is the correct code for 1981 deep maroon on CJ's?

I once thought of doing mine in LSU purple and gold. but only very for a very brief moment.

know some LSU fans who'd love it!

Now I'm thinking of doing my Hummer H1 wagon in Saints black and gold.

1EJ is your trim code - 1 is black, E is high back bucket seats, and J is for the Laredo option. Just to the left of that should be your paint code.

Here's a thread by PF that has the info: https://www.cj-8.com/forum/showthread.php?29603-Paint-Trim-and-Drive-train-Codes

Yeah, Tiber, something like that. ;)
Walker- , Yes, the 1k code is there to the left, kinda hard to see under there. And the 1EJ code items are still present, high-back black seats and some Laredo-ish touches on the
exterior of the Jeep. Many thanks for your help, and the same to Polarfire who also shares a lot of info with us. Much appreciated!

Just registered. Can I get original color from the VIN only? No other plates/stickers/tags are on it

No, original color is on the secondary vin tag riveted to the firewall.
