Project Money Pit!

Welcome, that definitely looks like a project! Great to see another one coming back to life on here!

On the gallery, you have to be a paid supporting member of the forums to access those, otherwise you can use photobucket or something similar.

Definitely price out a new frame against the frame shop. Frankly, I'm impressed that you found a place that would want to touch this. I had a body/frame pro friend who helped me on my suspension setup and he said their shop won't touch this kind work. Keep in mind that even a repaired frame is still only stock strength at best. The TDK frames that were mentioned are a good bit better than stock in pretty much all respects. (aka BEEFY).

Good luck and

Frame shop didn't see it yet, haha. I talked to him and he said he would do it.
I don't think I need a really beefy frame.
I found the TDK frame is about 1800.
I think I'd rather find a better body as that's what I really need more.

as a kid I got a huge box of models from my cousin - no instructions in any of the boxes most of the parts were off the "tree" already.... you will just never know if your have any left over parts LOL good luck and and Im looking forward to watching your project come to life

My frame is pretty toast like yours, although not quite as bad. I want to keep the factory frame so for about $200 in materials and allot of weld time she will be good as new. It's doable for allot less than the TDK frame but more work. The main issue I noticed though is the inside rust from the bottom of the rails for the length of the frame. You do not know how bad it since it's all interior rust. You might want to plate the bottom of the frame for the whole length to get some more metal in there.

E-Highfive for acquiring pre-tore down scramblers :D

I did the same thing a couple months back. hopefully i will get rolling on it very soon.

i am hopping to get the frame to the frame shop by end of this week or hopefully next week

Haven't done much at all with this so far, but I think the project may have just turned a different direction.
I've had this other scrambler sitting at a friends house for quite sometime. (much better condition than this one I have now). I should be picking it up Saturday or Sunday sometime, when I pick it up I'll take some pics and throw them up here.
This being said this one I have now ( the green one ) will more then likely end up being a parts scrambler.

Pics of the scrambler i just brought, this is going to be the one that gets restored now and not the other one (which will be used for parts now).
Waiting to hear back from a couple places this week about a fiberglass tub and then im going to decide what im going to do about the tub situation.
This jeep right now has a Buick 350 in it back by i dont know what trans and also the dana 300 transfercase.
This also has a 4 inch lift kit on it.
Its a 1981 Laredo Edition...
Also wondering was this an orginal color for this ?

Rear sliding glass window in hardtop, frame has some surface rust on the outside and no rot at all!
Much better then the other frame!

the previous owner had did some pinstriping on the frame, which i think came out pretty good....

Holy Light Tabs Batman! How many fog lights can you cram on a rollbar?!!

I am looking for some replacement panels for the purple body that i have pics posted of....
I am looking for the drivers rear quarter and also both wheel wells....
I have found the rear quarter through and online source but have yet to find the oem style wheel wells.
If anyone has any they are looking to sell let me know..even is it is the rear passenger quarter.
I am hoping maybe someone here bought them and didnt use them.
Let me know
:fingerscrossed:

Not much progress on this yet, waiting for it to warm up a little bit and stop raining..
Unfortunately i do all my work outside, i have a 2 car garage but half is filled with junk and other half has a car...
heres a pic of a scrambler i had last year i parted this out, the frame was rotted so bad it had basically a c channel frame from front to back. It only had 67,xxx miles on it, was a plow jeep its whole life :(

i stripped just about all the interior out of the scrambler today, with the exception of the heater box and brake and clutch pedal...
heres some pics of the floor area ( not replaced and none needed )
and also the rusted windshield frame....im suprised the glass is still held inside of it!

This jeep i was told used to be ice raced up in New York State somewhere, i cant believe the condition of the body and frame of this for being ice raced...floor pans are completly solid with minimal amount of surface rust along with the frame!

i only paid 1200$ for this purple jeep...what you guys think good price?!?

tomorrow i will be removiong the top and bulkhead and then ill have more pics from there

For the upper air/vent box: remove the large drain tube (if it's still attached) from the upper center area of the firewall, then remove the screws holding the vent grill cover on the cowl. Once the cover is off, you will find four additional screws in the corners (that were covered by the grill). Remove those four and the vent box will fall. (All the grill cover screws go into the airbox, so there's a total of around 10 screws that hold it up.)
