Project Panel Replacement

I always squeeze the trigger just above/near my cut so that the plasma stream is going then plunge in to cutting. I have the same machine and have cut 1/4" all day on a tip.

That works as long as your machine has the auto arc feature. If your machine needs the ground path through the work to start arc You must be close, but not touching it to strike the arc. Some machines require you to lightly scratch the metal with the tip to start the arc.

Keeping a clean tip makes a world of difference in how they function. I have a cheap china machine I got on Amazon. It cuts great with an auto arc feature, but requires a clean tip to function at 100%. To keep the tip clean, watch the distance from the work (too close it creates splatter and clogs the tip, to far and the self ignition takes over and consumes the nozzle and tip), having clean work to prevent trash burning off and contaminating the nozzle, and having clean dry air.

New tip, removed the drag cover and put on the smaller one and now just free handed it.
I used the grinder to get a really good ground closer to the cutting area.
I purged the air tank for any traces of water as well.

Once that was done, it was great... until I touched the tip to the cutting area and it clogged/blew out the hole.
So a new tip and then we were in business.

Downside is that now I have no more tips... so ordered some more up.
It also really needs high air pressure... which is fine, but a lot of the research I did shows lower pressure for these machines.

Pic isn't great (very smokey conditions last night), but you can see how the cuts are and how it sliced... there was NO air movement last night.
Almost creepy. Desperately need a fan when you do this... had to wait for a while for it all to dissipate... very smoky.

Anyway, the AX-15 has the adapter plate (glued) onto the D300 with some grey RTV that I have never seen before.
It did NOT want to come off, but finally got it removed.

All in all, I am seeing the finish, most of the heavy plate welded junk is gone and I don't have a ton left.

I’ve heard of going to crazy measures to get things done but man! If you needed the t-case that badly drop it from underneath!!

The rust/dirt/debris I think was the problem mainly.
As for the tcase, I just thought I could remove it easily, but it was glued tight.

Here is the back of the D300 all gooped up... it is a combo of gasket and RTV is my guess... strong stuff.

I got the adapter plate off the D300 as well... it was for AX-15 to D300... that also was caked in this stuff... does not wand to come off.

Guess they never wanted to come apart, that’s a mess… maybe acetone or airplane stripper will help in getting off…

Now are you braggin' or making excuses? Either way you're getting it done!

Off topic - is your building stick built, pole building, engineered? What's your concrete pad thickness? Do anything differently now that you're in it?

what are the floor dimensions and ceiling height?

Engineered trusses... open floor plan, loft upstairs... 40x40 w/ 15ft. ceilings.

only thing I really need at the moment is a ceiling fan to blow out the smoke when I am cutting stuff up...

I have the lift, that is the major difference of how I do things now... no more crawling under and on my knees.
A lot nicer on the back as well.

Well, full fridge too... lots of goodies in there :)

and to answer the cringey/lingering question... no... this one is not being chopped up.
Sat around for 15 years and it sin pretty nice shape.
1985 classic black P1 with 4EB garnet interior...

Gonna ditch the wheels, sell off all the extra parts. Replace the steering column as this one is very loose and needs to be gone through. The windshield frame needs replacing as there is rust/hole, new driver seat probably as it is ripped, get her running (needs a gas tank) and then fluids, etc. and then decide to sell or keep.

It was too good of a deal to pass up.

Beautiful! Man I miss snow.

We had nearly 3 full days here where we didn't need air conditioning. That was nice.
