Radiator Suggestion Needed?

I have an 81 Scrambler with an 88 4.2L 258. I need a new radiator. Does anyone suggest a good place to look (online or in store) and should I be getting a radiator to match the Jeep or match the engine? Also, is there a big difference between 2,3 and 4 row radiators? What do you suggest? I live in Texas...it gets hot in Texas.

I got one at Advance Auto this summer. 3 core, I think it was $170 or so. They had it in stock and it was a Modine. It cools my 360, the same one should work well for you. 4 core costs more and would be overkill.
 
Get a Modine, send in the Warranty, they are good and well worth the $$.
I'd suggest getting the largest radiator possible, just make sure if it's a 4 core (yes it's overkill, but hey more is better right!!??) that it fit's without interferance with the fan.

I suggest eBay - you can get some pretty sweet deals thereon. Just make sure to e-mail seller and verify it is a quality unit... like the other guys indicated, Modine was the brand recommended to me.

Again, just be careful w/ eBay... used to be pretty safe, but there are alot of hucksters using it nowadays. Check sellers' feedback and steer clear of low/no feedback sellers.
 
one more question...

When they ask what vehicle...should I tell them the vehicle it's going in or the vehicle the engine is from? Does this matter?

I would imagine I would match the radiator with the engine, just thought I would clarify.

Thanks for the tips on the Modine...I think this is the first time I have seen 3 guys agree on the same post about what brand or piece to get...we should write this date down :p

well I got this one

called the company and talked to the guy, he recommended (as well as a guy from Auto Zone) that I get a radiator to match the Jeep not the engine. And since they have the same engine anyway (258 4.2L) it doesn't really matter. This guy from 1A said the dimensions were exactly the same. And it was a great price ($148 shipped).

So, I'll let you guys know in 9 business days (don't know why it takes so long) what I think.

Got my radiator in a few days as well, after I get it on and the Jeep running I will let you guys know how it goes...but it came in a nice secure looking box with lots o padding and it looks great. We'll see how it works.

Admin - I couldn't find an 81 Scrambler in their drop down boxes.

sorry, sometimes when I am logged into the board as admin account I also read the posts and forget when I reply to a post that the login will show up differently.

In regards to the radiator. An 82 or anything up to 86 should be the same radiator. So, they may not have one listed for a 81 Scrambler but a 81 CJ7 or 83 CJ7 would work.

I tried the 81 CJ7 and they didn't have the 4.2L 258 listed in the drop down...but I suppose if I picked a different 8 it might have worked on the website...but I already got one anyway...so I guess it doesn't really matter...that is if the one I got is worth a dern.
