Randyzzz Scrambler Restification Thread!

Randy: Find a place that you can build onto. That's what we did when we moved from Ventura to Ojai. I'm next to the Montesorri School off Hwy 150 on the way to Lake Casitas.

Got the house and built the garage to house my machine shop,,,, And Jeep project! :rotfl:

Got everything on the same lot now.;)

The last pic of the house was taken before the garage was built, and now the house has a gray roof like the garage.

The place has two two car garages opposing each other in the breezeway.

I'm 62 and it took my entire life to get to this point. Be patient and work to a goal. Get a good picture of that goal and it will materialize.

Randy

Now I have machine shop envy. Now I'm going to be looking for a lathe and a mill, actually I was already looking.

And I'm envious of both of you.

Randy, I think I know exactly where your place is. I'd love to have a machine shop...

Dennis- Nice house! I think my wife thinks it all would look like your gun room. (Although, that would be a good thing, at least for me.) All my Scrambler/guy stuff is only in my office, which will now be in the new garage. However, there is no non-automotive stuff allowed in the garage...turnabout is fair play.

Although, at the new place, the gun safe has to go in either our bedroom or the living room.

Did you say guns? just got this one last week. Kel-Tec SU16CA. :D

I really do need a gun room, and that's exactly what the upper portion of that garage building is for someday.

ZR: Here's a pics of the other side of the shop the lathes are on the south wall.

W.R.B..I like what I see, a fully equipped machine shop with reloading equip and targets, what else does a Jeep owner need. I'm surprised that the Kel=Tec is still legal in Communfornia. I got curious last weak and made a count, I have 23 scoped firearms and nearly as many shotguns but there is always room for more.
It's seems like a long time since I've talked to you guys. It's nice to do it again. The Scrambler has been doing just fine, I guess I did it right the first time. You were absolutely correct, you at 62 and me at 60, the wish and dream list that we had 30-40 years ago have come to be reality. I still have a deep bucket list though. And all those vehicles in my signature are still in my garage, +2 tractors and 2 forklifts. I think I'm a hoarder now.

RandyZZZ.. Sorry man, Didn't mean to hijack your thread, I got carried away and thought I was still on my thread.

Now I'm really jealous! :bow::drool::bow:

That Kel-Tec is interesting- looks like it might make a good Jeep gun. Sort of a collapsible scout rifle. Guns are one of my other weaknesses. I recently picked up a Sig 2022 in 9MM, liked it so much I've got another one coming in .40. After that, it's going to be some sort of larger bore semi-auto rifle. I'm really liking the Sig 716,
sig716_1-1.jpg

or similar 30cal rifle. If money was no object I'd be all over the SCAR

or the LMT MWS

You guys are making me feel young! I'll be 52 next week Thursday.

ZR...it's fine...I got lost while making a reply drooling over rifles...

The last rifle I bought was a Sig 556nato but I sure like your choices too.

The Sig556 was the last rifle I purchased too. I have since added a Magpul UBR stock, and a scope and Walther red dot. And lots of magazines and ammo...

OK now were talkin'!

Jeeps and guns do go together pretty well. The idea of going into the desert for a weekend unarmed is just plain stupid. not much law out there in the back country. Best to be preparred.

This KT was an impulse buy, but at the price I got it for it was a screamin' deal. It is definately a Jeep gun as it folds in half and it weighs 4.7 lbs! and ammo in the buttstock is a plus too. I'll be shooting it for a long time.

The reloading bench is only the tip of the ice berg. What you see is the basic stuff, and other machines get clamped to the bench as needed, and then removed and stored elsewhere. I have 2 progressive shot shell loaders and 1 semi progressive. I have 2 progressive pistol caliber loaders, and 2 semi progressive loaders to do rifle and pistol cartridges. I also have portable bug out capibilities.

Then there is boolit casting, cuz you just have to have boolits to shoot. I am a frequent contributor over at castboolits.com

I have enough tooling and equipment to load virtually any round with only the addition of specific dies for oddball rounds.

Been doing this for along time, and as soon as this damn Jeep project is done I will be much more heavily into the shooting sports.

When I lived in Utah I reloaded a lot. I kept on saving for a Dillon 650 or better...but every time I had the $$ I bought another gun. That was back in the 90's. When we moved to Cali, I ended up selling off many of my guns, I never went shooting out there. Just kept the special ones. Moved to Oregon in 2000, have been buying and selling lots ever since. My collection seems to be in a constant state of flux except for the "keepers". I've found I like/am proficient with both the Sig and 1911 pistol platforms. Then I got a Sig 556 and was so impressed I sold my AR's. My interests tend to lean more towards tactical than hunting. When I lived in Utah I had full access to a local police range, and one of my good friends there was a civilian trainer for the military. We'd burn through a couple thousand rounds of 9MM weekly.Seems if I don't buy a gun at least yearly I get the "itch". Lately it's been 6 months...

However...as soon as I can devote space and time to something, I'm going to start homebrewing!

Randy: Did you buy this new house you're moving too? If so, you can either build a garage or expand the one it has. Once you have the garage ready then the rest of the stuff will come. The Jeep must live indoors otherwise the sun just kills them.

It took time to accumulate the amount of machinery I have, I've been in business for 25+ years and most all of the stuff I have came from my last shop in Ventura. I have twice as much room on the ground floor as I had in Ventura and it is now all filled up with stuff.

I wanted a 5000 sf steel building, but we didn't get the 1 ac place on La Luna we were hoping for so I had to settle for this place on Los Encinos and a much smaller stick built building. The Steel building would have cost me half what I spent on this one..

Randy B.. There is never enough room. i started off with a 5,000 sqft metal bldg and had to add on another 50x16ft after just 4 years, now its full again. Luckily I have two acres and I'm getting ready to buy another five and have plenty room to expand.

Randy S.. I started out buying one gun a year but this year I bought seven. The problem for me is I never sell anything. Now I'm starting to do that with cars. I may need to go to rehab soon..lol

I'm still using an old RCBS RC2 press to reload a few rifle loads, mostly for my 7mmSTW.

Randy- No, this is still a rental. My wife and I are considering doing an extended RV trip in the next 5 years or so, we're talking taking a year or two of travel. Rather not have a house, and definitely want a mailing address in a more tax-friendly state. So to us it doesn't make sense to buy in this uncertain market.

I'll post up pics of the new place once we get in- there's a lot more room than now- still not enough, but much better. Unfortunately none of my vehicles have been in the garage for at least 5 years... I have to spend a lot more time waxing the nice ones. I know what you mean about the weather/sun damage.

Dennis- I gave up on keeping them all a long time ago. Not enough room to keep them or time to use them. The Scrambler is the longest I have ever owned a vehicle- most are 2 years or less. She's a keeper. Same with a select few guns.

My press was an old RCBS Rockchucker...loaded a ton of .45 on that thing. The part I never got past was spending hours pulling that handle only to run through everything I had made in what seemed to be minutes. Maybe for precision rifle, but for high volume handgun, unless you have a progressive, you're better off just buying in bulk. IMHO...

Do your trip as soon as possible. You don't want to miss this current buying window. Things are as cheap now as they are ever going to be. That means both RE, and the money to buy it.

Once you decide where you want to live then you can buy a place and build your dream.

I agree. Real Estate and money to buy is never going to get any cheaper than it is now.

Our biggest issue is Carol and I both want to live somewhere else, but there's a custody issue with our oldest grand daughter. So, our kids can't move for about 8 years, and there's no way we're moving away from the grandkids. It's OK, I have no doubt that things will work out when the time comes.

Seems like life always gets in the way of living. Your right though, it will work out.
