It sounds like you'd be fine just rebuilding the axles you've got, with good parts. Like Rob points out, the AMC20 can be built in to a perfectly capable axle, and honestly, that's what most of us have done.

That CJ7 D44 would be cool, though....

H1 Hummers use Amc 20 ring and pinions, so that part is obliviously strong enough. Weakness is in the housing. Some J10's had AMC 20's. I know somebody here runs a narrowed FSJ AMC diff.

the CJ D44 price has been reduced now. I might try to pick this up for $300
