SJScrambler - Getting Started

Wow Craig! Your new workshop is awesome. I hope I can get to see it one of these days. I really like the detail of license plates as top molding. And its seems you have a fleet of jeeps again, so much for taking a break from dragging stuff home. Most importantly, where is the truck build hiding? ???

Unfortunately I have to drag a few more home due to cost overruns... substantial cost overruns sadly... the cost of materials tripled during construction.

The Jeep doesn't look half bad when you pull the top and plow off... however, the floor is gone, the rear is crumbling.

Also a trigger item for some... antennae placement is way off on this one ;)

And someone seemed to have lost the key:

Off to take it apart more today... it finally stopped raining!

There’s cost overruns even without lumber going crazy. When I built my shop, by the time I “upgraded “ insulation, wiring, lighting, doors,etc.- I came in right at 6 figures. Without lifts. It is built to the same standards that houses are…but I was shocked at the final tally.

Thanks CB, I will definitely take you up on the tour of the new space. It does look impressively expanded from your previous garage(s) combined size. All the better to tear down parts Jeeps I guess! Hoping to be up that way in the fall.

The vision I had is starting to work itself out... Get jeep, separate Jeep, take apart Jeep, build new Jeep.

The frame on this thing had no bottom and cracked on the way home... the sawzall scared it and it broke further... front clip is better, but this thing sat on a side of a shed for a decade on the dirt. Body however, is saveable I think... have to do more digging and removal of stuff.

You have to be loving that space and lift! Doing disassembly with a jack/jack stands in that tiny little space is a thing of the past.

That body doesn't look to bad by New England standards, although we cant see in the bed either. That's what always worries me about NE Jeeps, the frame. I swear you could sneeze and they break in half sometimes.

My frame is perfect, zero rust at all but I wish it was like yours. If it were I'd have gotten a TDK frame when I restored it. I just couldn't bring myself to replace a perfect frame..... so now i have frame envy.

I'm in the same boat. Sad when it's frustrating that things themselves can't justify spending more money on something brand new

Number 3 here with TDK frame envy. My frame was perfect also, then I modified it for the larger tank. In retrospect I wish I’d have ordered a TDK with LS mounts, TJ suspension, and mounts to fit my tank. But- I am totally happy with my current setup.

Been a few years, and curiosity has me asking about the status of this truck project. We want the truck!

It is still up on the storage lift... I am getting other stuff done, but this has taken a back seat... life is busy these days.

I hear you on that, time is flying ridiculously fast. I still need to get up that way and have been trying to for a few years. I haven't forgotten about a guy who sent me a speedocluster a year ago.

For those that are not on the socials.... I posted up on IG '@certifiablejeep' work that i started. Basically , when the new garage was ready , I moved over this project. There was a mishap. So i was mad for a long time. I finally finished another project so I am back on this. I have been fixing the rear of this that got crunched.

For the old schoolers I figured that you guys would want to see that I am working on it.

I can't say when but I do plan on working more on it.

Creg I have the same corner to fix on my 46. Not looking forward to it. Yours looks like it's coming out awesome. Carry on.

What a great flashback. I remember anxiously awaiting these updates. Hopefully more to come.

The bulkhead looks like a tailgate, not sure I saw that in past pictures. Looking forward to more updates and seeing your metal work…
