SJScrambler - Getting Started

I actually need to find it, but I have a bunch of work ideas that I drew up probably 20 years ago before I got engaged/married.
One was using a boat storage facility in the summer to put hard tops in for Jeeps.
Service was to remove the tops, store them for the summer, install soft tops, etc.
In the fall, put the hard tops back on, etc. and then the boat storage for the winter was for boats... kind of a dual purpose thing.

Another idea was to buy and RV and tow a trailer and do 3/4 of the year driving around the country helping people out with their projects.
Cutting/grinding/welding/drilling/wiring, etc. all the small things that would hold people up from continuing.
I would live in the RV and be able to work whenever... all I needed was a place to park it and get the trailer full of tools near the work site.

There were others, but basically none of the $$ part of it worked out.
I love helping other people, but I do need to make a living as well.
As a roving mechanic, the cost of fuel at the time for an RV/trailer and all the tools, etc., business/insurance, etc. killed that dream.

Yeah I rally like that 2 nd one ! I knew a couple of guys that did that sort of thing in big bread truck vans and did pretty good for a time in the local area. Finally went out of business years later. Good guys good mechanics ! Almost always out in the heat cold and weather though.

I'm in the entertainment business and you have a great idea for a television show. You could call it "Roving Mechanic". Endless possibilities for sponsors, different weather and geographic challenges, various countries (think JPFreek Africa adventures) and easily interfaced with multiple social media platforms. Embed interesting and engaging background information about the vehicle and owner histories tied to their surrounding towns, where they like to wheel, eat, camp, etc. and you have the possibility for a huge following IMHO.

so close... almost finished, but ran out of time.

Got a new front storage box on as well, the old one had seen better days and wasn't a trailer box really.

I mean, it is usuable as is, but I wanted another coat of paint, the rest of the decals and a few trial runs, but all in all, it is like a brand new trailer and hopefully will last the next 10 years.

Not shown is the wood repair as well at the end where the ramps are... a piece shrunk/cracked and was sticking up and needed some creative surgery to get it to stick down.

Finally finished up the trailer and guess what?

Something jumped on...

All the updates worked out just fine... was able to do about 3 hours total on it... tires were a little flat from not being used since Feb, but all in all, it is quieter with all that thing metal not clanging and flapping around... the tool box worked out as well, even though smaller, it holds all the stuff I would need.

Out of curiosity where'd you get the box?

I went to tractor supply and they were sold out, so this was the 2nd option... I went to Harbor Freight and there were 2 of them at half the cost of tractor supply... you have to affix it yourself... so I drilled 5 holes, 3/8" grade 8 hardware with lock washers.

Lock is a little simple, but I don't have anything in there that is $$$$, just straps and a jack. All said and done was like $125.

Thx for the info. I was at HF the other day to get a pneumatic hole punch/flange tool for the bronco and they were sold out.......Said they "don't know when the big boat is coming in" which tells me if HF has supply chain issues then things are pretty messed up

Yeah, I got the same spiel from tractor supply... it said they had it in stock, but they couldn't find it anywhere in the store.
I think the one I got is 2.75 cubic feet and the TS one was 3.6, so I wouldn't have minded being larger, but I needed a new one so I took what I could get. the old box was in rough shape... and essentially was a aluminum truck box that had been crunched one tooo many times.
