This is what it took to get started on it, but time's a wastin' to be ready for Bundy Hill in April and Moab in May.

Had to take pic before completely stripping out the speaker pod because phone was about to die.

Found this at the outer rear driver seat mount

That's all the farther I got today before I had to call it a day.

I've seen the original untouched up version of this photo. It is much more pink than it looks in the picture. This ski mask is from the VERY exclusive Big Walton "Feelin' FABULOUS" collection.

And as a side note... a Scrambler would make an awful get away vehicle. You should take your LJ, must more anonymous...but still not as good as Ford Focus or something.

There is not a single thing anonymous about my LJ ;) guess I'm just screwed.

Got out there tonight. Lit the crap out of the dash so I could see what I was doing. With the seats gone and a folded up blanket in the drivers footwell, it was comfortable as crap to lay under there and there's pretty great access

The final before picture. Note tach on steering column. I realized that I put in the KC light switch on the right in in Anchorage before the drive back home and that was almost 12 years ago.

My secret weapon for wiring. I don't know how I lived without this thing. They were a client of ours, so I scored this as a sample. I need to pick up better labels for wiring and I love the shrink wrap labels. Plan on both tape flags and shrink wrap.

Are these desirable or are they everywhere I a ll CJs? I want to go to a combo outlet/USB dealio and would likely get rid of this to move it into the dash. Would anyone need/want his thing?

I got all the gauges and switches out and threw in the new ones to see what they looked like and they are AWESOME. unfortunately my phone shut off from the cold and I didn't get any pics :banghead:

Tomorrow....

The new hotness, just sitting in place, not hooked up yet.

Passenger floor was my dumping ground.

This is the mess I had made that make my stomach turn every time I thought about it. All gone now!

Both of the upper illumination holes in the speedo had some troubling looking melting/singeing going on. Maybe from using a bulb that was too long and therefore too close to the plastic? Maybe this was a blessing in disguise to tackle this.

I'm not sure if that melting is from the wrong bulbs or just a common thing over time but I've seen that in varying degrees on almost every CJ speedo gauge I've pulled.

Regarding your cigarette lighter...I needed power outputs as well as I do charge my phone with it and have a spotlight that plugs into the cigarette lighter. I ordered a pair from Blue Sea Systems 12 volt charger port and a Blue Sea Systems Dual USB port. Both have covers that keep the dirt / water out and can either be screwed down with these removable rectangular collars or the collar can be removed and the screw collar secures it from the dash. I have those two and two switches mounted in my radio space via a piece of sheet metal (got that idea from someone here) and held on with the switches through the radio posts and tightened down. Looks ok but the ports work great and look the part. Just a thought. Am jealous. :)

Ordering those same outlets tonight and a fused distribution block. And does this pic look like we might be thinking similarly :)

Yep, that looks like a good layout. You probably have more things that need switching. I know someone is selling custom switches. I dont off-road much so no locker, but I do want to be able to turn on and off holiday lights, so might get a switch with a Rudolph or a firework. Want to switch out a goblin head for Halloween (ala Maximum Overdrive) with a Rudolph head on the front that lights up.

On your power ports, consider where your electronics are kept and where those pesky power cables might get in the way once plugged in

Played with more templates and added the last two gauges I want. Problem is that the defroster duct is in the way behind these.

My dilemma now is what to do with the heater/defrost setup. When I got under the dash, I found the flexible duct is toast. I'd patched it with duct tape in AK but it's done now. I've also never really trusted the stock blower motor and wiring anyway and ultimately want to go to an aftermarket setup. I'm thinking it's time to pull the whole shebang out and come back later with a new aftermarket unit.

Not sure if the defroster duct is a normal stock one or something special for RHD. I'll try to get pictures.

I'm tempted to just hole saw away where I want the gauges and just deal with whatever comes of it.

That's part of why I have the ports where they are. I'll either want things mounted on the centerline or out of the way (I use the cupholders right above those to hold my phone while it's plugged in, for instance.) so I think the ports are better over there.

Forgot the gauges around the steering column.

Small dot is the dimmer for the new gauge illumination. Placement is just rough.

I did the blazer blower motor upgrade and it has been awesome and worth it completely.

Are you sure that the new gauges are not shallow enough to fit regardless of the duct?????

Could you put the new gauges above the speaker and the ports below the Speedo?
