I would reach out to 4x4land.com in Topeka, KS. I bet they could modify their sliders as more of a step.I am in need of some steps to get into my lifted CJ8. Not looking for original, trying to get something not tubular, can modify. Any recommendations or success with a certain brand? Thanks for your time!
I was just checking in some AMP research XLs. What did you use for step activation??I bought a set of used AMP Research steps from an F-150 Crewcab, shortened the steps, fabricated mounting brackets, and couldn't be happier. For us old guys, it makes getting in and out a whole bunch easier. When they're closed, they almost look like sliders.

Someone in my local club had them in his JKU and found out they really don’t work great as sliders when he came down hard on a rock.I bought a set of used AMP Research steps from an F-150 Crewcab, shortened the steps, fabricated mounting brackets, and couldn't be happier. Because the CJ's never came with courtesy lights, I ended up installing a pair of generic door switches which, after fiddling with location, work on both the full and half doors. A bonus is that I was able to install a row of strip led's on each side which are activated by the steps, which are pre-wired for outside step lights. Another piece which became necessary was a double pole, double throw toggle switch that allows me to deactivate the steps when I have the doors off. I will admit that using the steps with the doors off is inconvenient but not a big deal.I was just checking in some AMP research XLs. What did you use for step activation??

I was looking at these, I may try to mount them to the bottom of the rock slider so I don’t have to drill into the body or the frame. What about the hideastep from MORE?

Hide A Step: Powder Coated for Jeep CJ (1976-86)
Now it is easy to get into your Jeep with those large tires! This affordable step is easy to install and has a convenient quick-disconnect feature. Now that you have that lift and bigger tires it will be more difficult to get into your Jeep but not with M.O.R.E.'s Hide-A-Step. Spring loaded to...mountainoffroad.com
That looks like a really clean install. The tube bars with a stirrup step that I have on my Scrambler aren't really practical with the amount of lift and size of the tires, the bottom of the step is about 29 inches from ground level. If you have any other pics of your brackets please show them off!I bought a set of used AMP Research steps from an F-150 Crewcab, shortened the steps, fabricated mounting brackets, and couldn't be happier.
