The '83 - Family Man

With guidance from @rubclt I now have a rear bed mat albeit not an original since my 8 isn’t a survivor. DeeZee part number = DZ86794 off Amazon for $105 new. I was able to grab a returned one that was unused for $90.

For less than $100 and an hour or so cutting a full size truck bed mat I have what I need.

Looks great, nice how rear inner fender ribs line up with mat ribs…

Nice job! What did you use to cut it?
Lowe’s has a Kobalt branded utility knife labeled as heavy duty. Took two fresh blades to do it but only two slow and steady passes for each cut

The originals look amazing in a survivor or even a complete restoration but for me I’ve never owned or done either - mine are always some level of restomod therefore I feel an original mat would be wasted on my stuff. Plus with this 8 I have a back seat so holes were needed through the mat for bolting it down.

Could you imagine the death threats I’d have received if I had an original mat and drilled holes in it?! LOL

Poor pic quality due to insane sun at my garage plus no one can see how dirty The Family Man is at the moment. Decided to just snap a few pics while parked inside.

Always felt the tail pipes needed chrome tips to match the wheels and rockers. El-cheapo set off Amazon to ensure I like the look.

Time for some paint matching. I don’t like tube doors on CJs - just my preference of course - so a set of YJ lowers fit the bill. Won’t run them all the time but when I have my daughter riding up front with me every now and then I wanted a little more safety

I eliminated the door pulls on mine because they stuck me in the leg and I just didn’t need them I found. The doors are great

Just a heads up when you get them paint matched...
The snap and retaining strip on the top of the door aren't needed for the TJ uppers, so you can have the holes filled before painting.

Mine have the squared soft tops for the doors. Once I fit the plastic TJ pieces that go between the soft tops & rollbar I'll swap to the rounded type.
Add my Windjammer & bikini top it'll almost be like a half soft top 😁

Nice touch. Love my YJ doors for 'winter' driving down here in Florida. I used them for nearly six weeks this year!

1/2 doors are one of the best Wrangler 'innovations'. I wish the new ones came with 1/2 doors standard like they use to.

Got the half doors back from paint and reassembled. Ordered new seals but they are on back order. No big deal really. Originals are good enough to work and it’ll be another 1.5 months before I go to “Summer Mode”

What paint did you use on the inside skins ? They look real nice.
This is a case of pics don’t do them justice- but in the wrong way.

PO painted them with what he says was out of a spry can made for plastics. He also stated he prepped them using a light sanding. In person the sheen isn’t consistent. I’d give them a 6 out of 10 in person.

In all likelihood I’ll repaint them once the weather turns.
