The '83 - Family Man

been gone for over 6 weeks on vacation and now that I am back started messing with the carb some more. Still not exactly where I want it to be and need to mess with timing just a little more.

Man I love this thing. I still miss the '81 but this is exactly what I wanted it to be - a Scrambler that my wife and daughter can enjoy with me at the same time, a Scrambler that my wife feels comfortable driving, a Scrambler that I can easily see giving to my daughter in the future. The very healthy 360 is FUN.

There will always be tweaks and such as we all know - these are never "done" but I'm close. Tried to recreate the pic with my wife in the driver's seat as before I tore it apart. Many more memories to be made in "The Family Man". (My daughter was at a friend's house at the time.)

Thanks for the pic including the GPS antenna placement. I remember you mentioning in my build thread. How is the reception there? Any issues?

No issues whatsoever with placement so far

Floor mats look really nice. Who makes them?
Fronts are actually Mopar. Rear are rugged ridge that I had to modify some. But the tread pattern matches the Mopar ones perfectly

If you go with aftermarket gauges that utilize GPS for your speedo you then need to figure out how to cap the D300. There are a couple DIY ways to do this that work just fine. I just so happened to run across a kit instead.
I bought and used the Advance Adapters D300 Speedometer hole plug kit. Works like a champ for less than $20. Part number ADD-300621

Took longer to open the box than to install. 32C7EDEB-F5C9-4551-87C0-652382FF030B.jpeg

When the Jeep throws a dart at you. You duck, stay calm and carry on.

While driving today the fuel gauge in my Speedhut cluster stopped working. Checked all wiring to find nothing out of the ordinary. I knew I had at least 1/2 a tank but stopped anyway to fill up. Gauge still shows empty. Awaiting a call from Speedhut on how to move forward. They have outstanding customer service / warranty so I’m not too worried to be honest.

Just as I finished the call the mailman pulled up. With him was an under hood light I recently purchased from a member that I don’t know his screen name unfortunately. Little spit shine, some clear sprayed on it and it’s in. AND it even turns off when I close the hood! I’ll keep an eye on it but if it keeps working this will be the first I don’t have to unplug while it sits. LOL348F7FEA-6BF5-4DF7-B6F1-636DCCFDEA7E.jpeg353A6484-7820-4E19-A8C2-DB51B8C20811.jpeg

So this happened….

As much as I like old school carbs (the 65 Vette is still carbed) I have been thinking quite a bit about my goal for this build.

I’m building this as if it could be a daily driver. Something me or my wife can jump in and go. No worries etc.. seems logical, at least to me, that I take that next step.

FiTech complete fuel mgmt system arrived today. I’ve installed FiTech on a couple customer rigs with no complaints. I, for whatever reason, figured I’d go with Holley Sniper but after much research as well as speaking to tech support on both units I went FiTech. Should be fun.

With all your research on these, what made you go that route verses s Howell or sniper?

Didn’t even consider Howell to be honest.

Holley Sniper kits have had a lot of warranty claims within the past two years. AND their warranty only lasts 90 days versus FiTech 365 days. I spent a good deal of time on the phone with a distributor I have used for years - he’s the guy I’ve always dealt with. His company sells both Holley and FiTech and it’s no skin off his back which is selected. The data he provided from their experiences leaned heavily towards FiTech. Combine that with my personal experience with FiTech I was all but sold.
I called both FiTech and Holley directly to get some feedback. Holley rep felt under the bright light with my questions concerning warranty and issues I raised that I said I read about. FiTech guy gave me his personal number to call if I have any more questions if I chose to go FiTech.

This is the second time a cheap plastic Omix/Crown float has been the problem. (Also on my last Scrambler). Small pinhole develops and fills it with gas making it read crazy. Speedhut gauges checked out fine.

Ordered a brass float so hopefully this doesn’t happen again. Of course it was after I filled up.
