Thoughts on Howell fuel injection??

Got a chance to buy a new Howell fuel injection setup for a great price(less than 1/3 of the msrp of $1700) Part #JP-V8. Any thoughts on this. Plan is to put it on my Scrambler's 401 with a t18 behind it. A Fitech, Sniper, or the likes is not in the budget. I would more than likely replace the factory 2bbl intake manifold with an Edelbrock Performer 4bbl intake that I already have. Jeep has an MSD distributor and 6a box also if that makes difference.
ANY thought?

Do it, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve run one for years on my 360, it’s one of the best mods I’ve done. It starts well, idles and runs smoothly. I did have bad luck with MSD, running a DUI now.

I always liked the Howell more then some of the other kits due to the fact that they use all GM parts. So, go to any parts store/junk yard and get injectors/sensors/throttle body and even an ECU. There is something to be said for easy parts availability.

I reinstalled a Howell kit on a 1982 CJ7 a few years ago, I liked it, thought it performed great.

If I was looking to buy a throttle body injection kit right now I would choose the Howell over the other aftermarket systems.

I've run their kit for about 20 years now on my 258 without issues. Like spankrjs, I liked that I can find any replacement parts pretty easily.

The only complaint I would have is that they used to supply it with Parker fuel line that wasn't proper for fuel. I only found out as I had a neighbor at the time that worked for Parker. We swapped it out for the right type of fuel line and all has been great.

I like that they use factory/readily available parts. That said, a friend had issues with a new kit from them. We were in changing parts purgatory for 3-4 months. At that point they wanted us to replace parts that were already replaced before multiple times. To their credit they accepted the kit back and gave a full refund. It was awkward as they wouldn’t send parts. It was trip after trip to the auto parts store and they would pay for the parts if it fixed the problem. In the end it was either an issue with the big block TBI or the harness. We tried 3 computers, 2 PROMs, temp sensors, tach filters, throttle position sensors, O2 sensors and 2 distributors.

I do think they made a good product. No matter how good a company is everyone will eventually have a bad experience.

Afterthought, if you’re going to run the MSD, make sure that you have the right tach filter in the harness. It won’t run right if it’s the wrong one and it’s usually hidden in the harness near the cpu.
