V8 scrambler

I have just purchased a factory installed 81 scrambler v8 bought from original owner --yes AMC made a v8 in 81 only do your research

I have never seen documentation to prove that that the factory sent out a V8 Scrambler. There is a guy on Facebook that says he bought 1 new with a V8. I think a dealer installed V8 possibly and without documentation that is what I will continue to believe.
 
Heck of a first post, no responses claiming it is impossible, but accusations that this group does not know what they are talking about and told to “do research”. Welcome!

I would love to see the first 11 digits on the vin plate (picture) feel free to blur the 12th thru 17th digits if you want to protect the identity of the vehicle. You can show either the one on the wiper motor plate or the one on the firewall by the brake master cylinder.
 
How about a picture of the VIN tag with just the first seven digits. How's that for a "name-that-tune" challenge, Robert? LOL.

Believe it when I see it.
 
From time to time the fakeblock generation ventures out in search of further information.

They tend to show up with chips on their shoulders, because fakeblock is a rude and hostile place.

I hope norton simmers down, and shares what he has to offer.

An actual factory V8 Scrambler would be quite a find!

I was about to say 7, but 11 includes all the info needed to verify if it is a faked VIN or legitimate. But 7 would be enough to start a debate. Positions 8, 10, & 11 help confirm validity.

Anything less than 7 does not prove it is an -8 though.

I would LOVE to see a factory V-8 scrambler.

If it is verified as true it would be priceless and collectors would climb over each other to get their hands on it.

I would love to see the details of a factory V8 scrambler because I am fascinated by the Jeep oddities. Especially the end of the line, grab what’s left approach.

I would also love for it to be verified. That would be quite the find.
 
Good question. I thought it was 1981. But I'm not sure why I thought that as I can't find it anywhere on the intertwebs right now. I have a vague recollection of reading that in one of my manuals.

I also believe from what I've read in the past that there were some 1981 CJ7s that came with a V8. When searching for parts for a 304, such as a flywheel, 81 was listed. Someone on here said as AMC changed to the Six on CJs, they used up remaining V8s on some CJ7s. I could imagine someone special ordering a Scrambler V8. Just waiting for Norton to prove it.
 
This comes up from time to time. Never have seen a vin with the appropriate character. Closest I've seen was a dealer installed V8 sold as new off the showroom floor (window sticker showing add ons). Of course the vin didn't match as it didn't come off the assembly line like that. For the purist there is a difference between coming off the assembly line and coming off the showroom as new. I doubt we will see any vin here.... But I would love to see a factory V8 scrambler.

No doubt! My '84 is stamped "Jeep" on one side and "Joop" on the other.
My bodywork guy and I could not find any evidence that the side panels were not factory.

I had a 1984 CJ8 the same way… seems the Jeep die was worn to create Joop

Good, I'm not crazy then. o_O

I always though it was the evolution of the stamp:
JEEP > Jeep > Jeep (with "e"s centers filled in) > Joop > The blob it is today
 
My '81 is a Joop, so I wonder if it isn't just how whomever put the die in that morning did it.
 
Maybe they found out Joop was not stressing the metal like Jeep. :shrug: Just slap some decals on it. Who is ever going to know.
