What's your Career?

While I'm here poking fun of my beloved people north of the border, I should actually reply. I work for a fairly large software company helping to sell our products. I specialize in doing domain and messaging migrations for our big customers. I actually lead the propeller head team that sells our solutions technically. Started off with these computer thingies when I was about 12 and my dad would bring home scrap from the dumpsters at work. I'd fix them and sell them. Then off to college with a BS in IT...I have to brag a bit here...i did graduate Summa Cum Laude (I like to kid my wife even though she has numerous more degrees than me that at least I never got a B...she got 1 in some athletic class like karate or something). Really floundered with life at that point and decided to enlist in the AF. Became a tech for voice and data communications for those big things that make tremendous booms. Scared the p1ss out of trainees by learning how to send missile away indicators to their consoles. Got out of the AF with the TS clearance and went to work contracting to the Army, FBI, OSD, and a couple others. Decided that the clearance was not worth the hassle and went into the commercial market where I am now. Best decision I think I ever made.

And here I thought you were a profesional "CBSB" (Chestnut Brown Scrambler Builder )

Basically I am the first guy in... I check over everything to make sure its not too "hot". once I give the ok, the work group that I am protecting goes in and starts work. I keep watch over them and make sure they are not getting into trouble... Then when they are done, I help them safely leave the area...
Thats basically what I do... there is more too it, but I dont feel like getting into it.

I am an anesthesiologist and I used to post almost daily 10 years ago when I was in medical school The members of this forum helped me rebuild my Scrambler from the frame up during my last ever "summer vacation" between my 1st and 2 year of medical school when I had lots of time and no money. Now I have a paycheck but zero time so I am constantly fighting the urge to just buy parts and bolt them on rather buying tools to make parts and teach my kids something in the process.

That's pretty much how my train of thought was as a teenager, when in the late '80's and early '90's I worked in the forest products industry and had to drive around those dog Chevrolet 454 1 tons from 1988 and 1992 model years. At least the '88 didn't have that silly GM automatic 4-wheel drive engagement system, nor did it have that ridiculous rounded cab design that allowed mud to perpetually coat the sides of the cab.

At least in those days, I received interest on my tax dollars they used to keep their business afloat!

First jobs in manufacturing, Bass, Foster. Then worked for family, woods work with horses and bovine podiatry "trimming cattle feet" working with farm folks is the best. Then paper maker for last 25 years. Looking foward to retiring from that. It would be tough to call the job a career though. It's shift work, 12 hour days or nights, it pays well though so I'll sit it out. Messing with stocks and options, who knows I may get out early.:)

Funny how it takes us all doing different things to make the world go around. I worked at the local Pizza joint while I was in high school along with working at the one of the local golf courses during the summer. While I was getting my associates in Architecture and Construction Engineering I got a random phone call from one of my friends from high shools dad. Long story short he graduated with my mom and they had a high school reunion and were talking about what their kids were doing so mom told him that i was in school to be an architect. Well he just happened to need someone with CAD capabilities so he called me up about working part time drawing for him. So while going to school full time, working at the pizza joint about 30 hours a week and working my new job 30 hours a week I was dying! i asked Al (the owner of the company) if he would make it worth my while and could give me enough work and he said we would make it work out. So I started drawing golf course irrigation systems and pump stations, maintaining the landscape on our 10 acre facility, pushing a broom and on and on. Now 9 years later, I run the design department and design irrigation systems for golf courses, athletic complexes, houses, commerce parks, road ways and anything else that needs green grass all over north and south carolina. I also design pump stations for the irrigation systems and water features and waste water treatment plants and stuff. i get to play golf alot and work for and with great people so I can't complain. Here is one of my latest contraptions This is a golf course pump station capable of 1600 GPM @ 145 PSI to run the irrigation system.
