Who are you using to insure your CJs?

Had they seen anything before that?

Trying to get at my earlier point here. What did they know when it was fine and what pushed it over the edge?

At least you found out in time. I always worry about others who may not have been fully descriptive.

My company originally said they normally do not insure jeeps . They asked if it had big tires. I said no, 35 inches. I said big engine (401 at that time). They did not care about engine size. They requested 3 pictures and said it most be in a garage. Pics sent and they said they would insure it.

Did they ask about off-road use?

American Collectors Ins. could not insure my Jeep period if "it were to ever go off-road".

And this is precisely what I fear that most insurance companies for “stated value” policies would say if people brought up going off road as they signed up OR, what really scares me: once a claim is made and it’s discovered that it went off road, ever., without being disclosed when writing the policy.

“Oh? You went off road in it last year? Then you’re not covered. Sorry.”

When I spoke with them, not even a gravel road was acceptable, couldn't leave pavement. So much for their "more driving freedom" marketing slogan...

Trying to get to the “discovery vs disclosure” issue I keep brining up.

In other words, if you asked, do you expect that they would have written the policy assuming it was 100% street driven if you said nothing?

I am not even rural(30 minutes outside of Philadelphia) but there are gravel roads 30 minutes from me. No gravel roads seems extreme to me.

And this is EXACTLY why I always get crazy on these threads, this is just the kind of thing I’m trying to make people aware of.

I just use Progressive. I have full coverage with them on it. They didn't ask any questions. I just added it on their website by the VIN and selected the coverage amount. There is an option to cover aftermarket accessories also.

When I enquired about coverage they were all in. They were happy to take my money. But I knew to ask about some mild off-road trail riding. When I mentioned that the conversation was over immediately. American Collectors wouldn't cover me period.

Like you said BW, they don't bring it up. I'm sure it's in the fine print that is seldom read. But if you were to need real coverage at some point they could possibly come back on you if it was offroaded. I think especially if you have an online presence with your Jeep maybe they could find that out. 🤔

The problem with that is that in a full total out situation you probably won't receive the true value, especially if your Scrambler is really nice.

I asked. Inquired about easy trail rides, that's when they said no gravel or dirt roads. They would have written it if I had not asked.

Maybe the question is, has anyone been off-road with one of these full coverage policies and has been in any type of wreck or rollover or mishaps or like an elk has charged or buffalo rammed you while on an adventure ? IMG_1587.jpegIMG_3490.jpeg
