I was wondering if it would be possible to install a side pop out window on a AK postal hardtop like the overlander or if the Aussie world cab is a differnt version. I attached some pictures I have found of some aussie tops, In the first picture it apperas thier is still a piece of metal that is left in place for the pop out window to function. Curious if anyone has pictures of the interior pop out window from one of these World Cab tops ?

Yes you can put windows in, but...

The Postals are Van tops and the Aussie ones are Wagon tops. Check out pages 19 and 20 of the PDF in that thread. You'll see that the Van and Wagon have two different part numbers for the inner side panel - Van = 2012 and 2014, Wagon = 2016 and 2018 (reference numbers 11 and 17 in the drawing).
The difference between the two is the size of the window opening in the panel, the place where you'd cut the opening in the Van panel is smaller than the Wagon window opening.
So the answer is you can cut a hole in your Postal top and put a window in, but the stock Aussie Wagon window with the pop-outs won't fit. You'll have to find a different window, perhaps at an RV supply place.
If you do decide to cut the hole in the Postal top, you'll also have to deal with the horizontal reinforcing rib in the inner panel. You'll need to cut that out and then where the rib used to join the vertical part of the window opening you'll need to weld in some patch panels to match the contour of the window frame, these patch panels can be cut from the reinforcing rib. I have detailed photos of that if you need them, let me know and I'll post them. The basics of the window cutouts are shown on my project site: http://home.stny.rr.com/jscherb/scrambler/hardtop.htm. Notice my side windows are smaller than the ones in the photos you posted, that illustrates the difference between the size of the window openings on the inner panels. Oh and you'll probably have to deal with the vertical curve of the side panel.
If you want some detailed photos of cutting the window opening in a Postal top and dealing with the curved side so a flat window can fit in, let me know and I'll post them.

Jeff thanks for the info. I just saw the one listed on ebay looks like the PO was succesful in adding the pop out window. I really like the fact of getting some venelation in the back. I am going to see if the guy from ebay can send me some photos of the interior pop out window so I can replicate the install. I have really enjoyed your project site and have gotten lots of ideas from the detalied pictures.
Eric, I got most of the photos from Australia classifieds or ebay listing. I made a good deal on one from ebay but then found out US Customs wouldn't allow me to bring it into the country. The owner was understanding so all worked out good. The white cj-7 was off a listing in Venezula.
I finally got an AK with the world cab from Bretjamin from this site and will post some pictures of my progress. It has a lot of cancer but the world cab is in pretty good shape ecept the rear door needs a little TLC.

I didn't notice the size difference when I posted on that thread about it possibly being an AK psotal top, it's definitely not.
Of course there's the issue of actually finding a pair of those windows.
Just another note about doing this job... If you follow the cutouts on the inside of the postal top you need to make sure you radius the curves less than they are from the factory. I followed the the outline on the inside of the postal pannels exactly and you will end up with a kink in the seal when you try to bend in around the tight radius. I know that sounds confusing but I will try to post a pic for you and get you some measurements.

Ed thanks for the tip on the radius cut. I have not cut mine yet.Just got all the foam off, the foam was actually holding the rusted body toggether above the wheelwells. I would like to try in put in a sliding window or a rear pop out window in mine. Check out the picture of the red world cab loooks like it has a sliding window with a pop out. The other picture is in a cj-7 WC with a pop out.
