Well done!! Looks cool. The boss (Not my mrs!) convinced me to go wide -8 stud froma J20. Just need to work out a decent outboard kit. Inspiration, but I think I'll keep the WC!

Thanks, just need to wire up the data port and do something with all the spare wires from the PDC.

Not going to bother with the check engine light anytime soon.

Had to bring this back up... last year I never got the Postal out in the snow at all (I don't drive it on any main roads in the salt, but have some vacant lots in our neighborhood and an empty neighborhood next to ours I can play in a bit). Today I vowed to get it out and got to do it late this afternoon.

The Jeep hadn't been started in about 2 months since I last parked it, went out in the 20° garage and it fired right up with only a couple extra cranks

Great stuff! Would have got pictures, but we had a minor sledding incident (drove to the neighbors to sled) with Laura and had to head inside in short order (all good, just not happy after a wipeout).

I miss snow! Never got to go sledding in the UK and hardly any snow in Aus! (well accessible snow!!!)

Hope the little-un is all good!

Yeah, it's snowing right now... I love the weather here

Little one is fine, probably going to be interesting getting her back on a sled anytime soon, but no real damage other than a little fright.

Thanks. There's enough information out there that anyone can make the 4.0/AW4 swap work, especially if you stick with the OBDI setup. The 4.0 forum on www.cjoffroad.com is a goldmine.

I was just up your way yesterday at the Snowfest in Frankenmuth. Hopefully we'll find you a rig soon and we can meet up. Keep your eyes on the Midwest forum here to watch for gatherings, we are working to plan something for this summer, we've been to Silver Lake the last couple years.

Meaning what exactly?

You're going to still have a D300 in it regardless (unless someone swapped it out), and you pretty much have to fab a shifter setup or you can make the shifter from the donor work. You'll need to drill new holes in the crossmember and most likely make new, so I don't know what real difference there would be.

hey BIGWALTON, Thanks for the awesome wright-up. Im gathering up all my parts for my 4.0 aw4 swap. Im installing a hesco comp and harness OBD1 unit. have a 98 4.0 and a 91 MPI set up off of a xj. bought the AW4 today from a 91 xj so...... let it all begin .... again! I plan on doing a full wright up also.

I came close to going back to OBDI, but just stuck with what I pulled off the donor...

Looking forward to the writeup!

could you post or send me the lenth of the rear driveshaft you had built, and do you need a switch on the brake to disenguage the TC lock up? Im also looking at the TJ floor hump insert to mount my xj auto shifter to. Ordered it tonight.

I'll try to get a measurement on the Dshaft. The brake switch is in post 120 here.

MPG data on highway

I've never been concerned with MPG in the Postal, if I really cared, I wouldn't have done most of the things I've done to this point.

Since I knew I was going to have basically straight highway mileage for a couple tanks on the trip to the 2010 SOA national, I figured I'd see what the 4.0/AW4/4.56/35s gets

So far I've done four fillups on the trip down (not all full tanks) and here's the damage (BTW, I also knew I'd have a GPS in the Postal for the first time so I could verify that I did the speedo gear in the tcase correctly and it's within one MPH or so.)

One thing to note is that this is with the Jeep loaded with gear/tent/beer and I have the soft top and doors on, but both door windows were unzipped and the rear window was rolled up (for ventilation)

12.20 (I was really moving coming down through MI, drivers there know how to drive and traffic was moving around 80)
15.02 (this and the next tank were miles that were closer to 70 or so average)
15.10

13.62 (this was only about a 1/4 tank or so through some really hilly country coming into Cookeville)

So 13.99 overall, though the last one really isn't comparable driving to the first three, but it's so little gas that it only makes about .2 MPG different.

Better than I thought it would be!

I don't think it deserves to be a sticky over any of the other great/useful threads on here really...

With the new forum software that's coming, we'll be able to do some different things that might satisfy your question without needing to make it a sticky.
