New To Me 83--Parts Needed

After priming, I painted all the areas with VHT Chassis and Rollbar Paint. This paint cures faster then the Rustoleum, I really like this paint. The paint is black, but since all the painted areas are hidden, no reason to worry about color matching.

I have a few more minor areas to paint, but I should be able to reassemble the body fairly quickly. I am not going to replace all the nuts, bolts, etc on the remainder of this rebuild. Most of the remaining components are in good shape. I am going to clean and and make sure the rest of the components are functional. The main reason for all my paint work was preservation, not restoration, and since this is a "budget build", thus concludes my anal retentiveness.

A few random pictures of the completed under body, I think it looks much better then before, and more importantly, it should last a few more years easily now.

And one last picture. The body tub sat on its side for so long that it is filled with sand.

That's it for now.

Okay, okay ...

Finished updating, carry on:wave:

Any update on your red Laredo :ZZZ::ZZZ:

Don't forget, I need to get some parts from you to finish this thing up:

speedometer head
power steering pump pulley
20 gallon tank and skid plate (or I will put the 15 gallon set up in that I have here)
two seats
bulkhead

Probably some more stuff I am forgetting

We need to have a "parts swap meet" in the next few weeks:wave:

Had a little concern about using the "Green" Scrambler for a parts hauler.

Everything looking good as usual.

Appreciate it MrBeep:thumbsup:

As for the green Scrambler being used as a "parts hauler", I always strap all the junk in the bed down good and tight, plus I use my "NAPA big rig mud flap" bed floor protectors, been working great

I am actually using the green Scrambler today to haul a transmission jack/yard Scrambler's cylinder head back to the mechanic shop at work, easier to load this stuff in a Scrambler vs the TJ:smokin:

I hope to make a bunch of progress on yard Scrambler this holiday weekend:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:

I was sick all during Thanksgiving, then house sitting the following weekend, but I finally worked on "Yard Scrambler" this past Saturday.

Picture of some of the under hood parts and pieces.

TDCing the engine install to the distributor. I am using a 1982 distributor, eliminating the computer controlled carb/timing. First picture is looking down the distributor hole, oil pump slot pointing at 11'o'clock, second picture shows the timing marks at the crank.

IMAG0012-1.jpg

Installed the distributor, coil, ignition wires, spark plugs, fuel pump, and fuel line on the passenger side of the engine.

IMAG0013-1.jpg

Installed the header/intake on the driver side of engine, hooked up the fuel line/filter to the carb.

IMAG0014-1.jpg

Washed the hood and fenders with Purple Power, got rid of all old gunk and grime.

IMAG0008-1.jpg

The driver side fender required extra scraping/scrubbing to remove the melted on epoxy. This might have been why the engine had a "miss", the ignition control module was melted to the inner fender!!!!

I installed the windshield hinges with new SS bolts and nuts. I did not reuse the Torx head screws, they suck.

Next up, to get rid of all the parts laying around the yard, and to make it look like I accomplished a bunch of work, I put most of the body parts back on. I ran out of daylight before I could install the grill.

It is finally starting to look like a Jeep again, but there is still plenty of work to be done.

That's it for now.

Appreciate it:thumbsup:

I am going to do some prep work on various parts this week after work, maybe I can make good progress this weekend, but it is supposed to rain Saturday and Sunday:(

I am going to do the following this week:

1) Pressure wash/clean re-loom the wire harnesses
2) Clean/re-seal the heater box, install new heater core
3) Clean/paint the radiator and pedal assembly
4) Minor prep/paint on the bottom of the grill
5) Paint the replacement dash

Even after I install all this stuff, I still need to:

1) Install steering shaft and ps lines
2) PS pump
3) Master cylinder/bleed brakes
4) Rewire the dash
5) Fuel tank
6) Figure out the under hood wiring, which is a mess right now
7) Clean/install clutch linkage

And a bunch of minor details:crazy:

It will be pretty tough to meet my Christmas deadline:shrug:

You may need to pick up the pace a little to have this one AND the Almond '84 completed by the Nationals and Sand Blast.

Great work , as always my friend.

I don't know why you are so happy, no "Yard Scrambler" for you until you finish your red Laredo:headbang::rotfl:

Appreciate it Toby:thumbsup:

Yep, I need to get my butt in gear, but i should be able to have almond one ready for Sand Blast:thumbsup::wave:

Always like seeing updates on this......

So for the windshield hinges, those still look like torx heads. Did you find some torx bolts in stainless or are those hex head?

Appreciate it

They are stainless bolts with the same exact profile as the factory Torx bolts. But, they use the "6 sided Allen wrench" thing versus the Torx head. Being stainless, you have to be careful about over tightening and stripping out the Allen headed hole, but they are still way better then the Torx head, IMO:thumbsup:

I bought a bag of 50 from Fastenall when I was working on my red Scrambler, I am just using the left overs on "Yard Scrambler"

Any thoughts about replacing the heater core while its apart? Just a thought. Not good if it leaks later.
