Dennis- you and I are going to have twin Scramblers some day. That's my goal for the 81.
On your cross member- I think with the poly biscuit motor mounts you should be ok. The problem arises when the engine can "torque over" against a trans mount that is too solid. Tends to snap the ears off the adapter. There's an easy fix on yours if need be. Simply flip the cross member so the mount platform is on the bottom. Use a compact Energy Suspension Poly mount, it may bolt in direct or you might need a simple spacer. Looks like it should all clear. That's a stout cross member- I like it!
Thanks Randy. That is something I will definitely look into. It's an easy fix and even if isn't needed it sure can't hurt anything.
Follow up......If I flip the cross member it appears that I won't have enough width for the Energy mount. With all the other Coonass engineering I've had to do this cross member is small potatoes.
Speaking of my Coonass engineering here is a short list of problems anyone will need to solve to do this conversion.
1. Placement of engine..to far back, farward,up or down and offset to drivers side.
2. What mounts to use
3. Fuel system, completely new.
4. Suspension lift.
5. Exhaust system
6. Rewiring the engine. new Painless wiring harness
7 Rewiring everything in the dash, a different Painless wiring harness.
8.Drive shafts. Length, offset. CV join on rear not on front.
9.Change the angle of the rear differential. what angle and how.
10. VSS switch
11. 4WD switch
12 Shifters
13.Lots and lots of money...cha-ching.
I've got to stop this list, I'm getting depressed
