What's on your Work Bench?

I have 3 latches on the front lip of the half top with the 3 clips mounted on the inside top of windshield frame. Going to make 3 boxed pieces of metal on inside of bulkhead and hook to bottom of inside of half top. Just took the half top off so I'll do in the fall. And what holds the latch to the top? Angle iron? Glued in??

I need to check the hard top. If I remember right I had nuts (something like what I call speed nuts similar to what's in the half tops bottom that bolts to the bulkhead) that I drilled a hole into the half top (double walled at that spot). They spread in the hole to give a place to screw the bolts in. Use 2 bolts/latch on hardtop side and 2 screws on windshield frame. Have used the hardtop at freeway speed with no problems.
 
I use steel and rubber rivet nuts all the time, they can be life saver some times.

Tossing this up for opinions, Do I leave the diamond plate aluminum as is or do I paint it gloss black to match hood hinges, windshield hinges etc. I'm currently leaning toward leaving it (brings out the steering column and aluminum steering wheel, may be too much black). What do you think?

thats what holds my top to the top of the WS frame. I think they were brass and rubber but maybe were steel, i dont actually recall now. work great
 
The black would help clean up the edges. I have enough metal to make another set. Might be worth it to see what it looks like.

I would do black as well. But that is me. I am trying to get rid of all of the shiny Kentrol bits on mine.
 
I would prefer the stock look also but the flaming river sheering column is a 2 1/4" column and hole is probably a 3" hole. It has around 3/4" of open space between the two. Found a pic and tried to crop so you can see. Wish I was good with fiberglass to reduce the opening.

I think the stock pc looks better then the diamond plate.. those plates always remind me of somthing very wrong underneath. .
Can u somehow put a plate behind the stock pc to fill the gap?

That's a interesting thought. Sounds like a job for jerseyjeeps. Eric do you have 2 of these plastic covers. Maybe I can cut one so it sits inside the main cover. May need 2 in case of screw up. Eric if you can pm me Thanks Guys for the idea.
