I'd say your build came in cheap for what you ended up with. You did a vast majority of the work your self, just imagine if you had paid for all the body work and/or engine swap! Great job!

So in retrospect that 40k 5000 mile scrambler from Barrett is in par with a new build.

I thought of another 2200.00 that I didn't have receipts for. There are also numerous trips to Home depot and Tractor supply for Misc. hardware such as bolts, nuts and washers and rattle can paint. I'll be conservative with that figure at $500.
Receipts $35,705.00
Misc 2,700.00
Gears 2,500.00
Keyless, power windows and locks 500.00
_____________
TOTAL $41,405.00

Can't buy a New Wrangler with a 325 HP V8 for that price anywhere.

Yes except I believe that truck may have been total stock which some people put a premium on that. I have a stock but restored '81 Scrambler too that I will be putting up for sale here soon. I went through the same process with it as Stump Jumper about 5 years ago.

I would say the price is right for what I ended up with. The only labor I paid for was the painting because my skill level just was up to par for my expectations. I will also be paying for the labor to have the gears and Detroit locker installed.

If this is a street jeep, why the Detroit locker? Wouldn't a true trac make more sense?

Nothing wrong with running a full Detroit in the rear on any road. I run one in my CJ-7 and love it. The tru-trac is junk like every other limited slip, it's limit is reached when you need it most.

Well I built Stump Jumper to drive and we turned 1,030 miles today. I'm just going to keep driving the chit out of this thing.

Sounds like a great plan!

Looking forward to hearing the results.
How's that swap cooler work for you?

The "Swamp Cooler"? I couldn't live without it. I don't even turn the two exhaust fans in the wall on because all they do is suck the hot air from outside into the building. I actually have a second smaller swamp cooler too. It's unseen in front of the Hummer.
It's about 10 to 15 degrees cooler inside the shop than outside with the coolers running with the water. Without the water you're just moving air. Every little bit helps though. The left corner, the red room is a 21' x 16' climate controlled garage for those days when I absolutely need AC and it houses the ZR1. Everything I own including the 16ft enclosed trailer is air conditioned.
Sometimes I just have to stop and pinch myself and remember how fortunate I am to have been blessed to have such a nice shop to work on my toys in. God has truly been good to me. Many of you know that there is another 50' x 30' garage to the side of this one.

The question about the swamp cooler got me curious so I place my thermometer 10 ft outside my door in the sun and 2 feet off the driveway. At 2 PM it was 101*. then I placed it inside the shop 10 ft in front of the porta cooler and 2 ft off the floor and at 2:20 PM it was 82*. I'm from the south and can't do math but even I know that's a big difference. I was very surprised at that.
