1983 Scrambler "STUMP JUMPER". Frame off, 5.3 Conversion.

The scrambler looks sooooo small behind that Avalanche.

Sent from my iPad
Yes it does. Even the Hummer is smaller than the Avalanche. The H1 is not as long and not as high but it is about 11 inches wider than the Avalanche.

We design and build these at my company, the concept is pretty simple, if you locate the inlet air condition on a psych chart (say 90 degrees and 50% RH) and follow it strait up the wet bulb line 80-95% of the distance to saturation, that will be the leaving temp. They are absolutely stellar in dry climates (Colorado)....less so in extremely humid

That's the biggest problem with these coolers here in Louisiana where the RH rarely gets below 85%.

Yep, but 80 degrees and 90% RH is still better than 100 degrees

It is 60 degrees in July right now in NH watch out for cats and dogs falling from the sky

There's also a difference between "dry heat" and "humid heat."

I grew up in Northern California, where 100+ summer heat is he norm. I went to JC in Redding, where 110-115 wasn't uncommon, and in those days, I drove an un-air-conditioned VW bug with black vinyl seats... I acclimatized!

When I went in to the Marines, I ended up being stationed at Ft. Meade, MD during the summer of '92. It was 100+ with 100% humidity during the day. I had a flexible work schedule, so I did PT at night... I would run at 1:00AM, and it was still 95 degrees and 100% humidity. I could hardly hold on to my mag-light because my hands were so sweaty!

The summer of '97 was just as bad. I was freshly out of the Marines, and headed back to California. I camped in Minnesota, and it was 100+, and 100% humidity... MINNESOTA!

I'll take "dry heat" any day... of course, a "dry 90" (like we had today) is even better...!

4:10 Gears. Good news and Bad news.
Good news is they are installed and working properly so far. The performance is so much better but maybe not as good as I was expecting but is probably exactly what I needed for my type of driving. It still won't exactly smoke the tires the way I hoped but I did knock almost 3 seconds off the 0-60 speed time. 11 seconds doesn't sound fast but it's not all that bad.
Bad news is my installer really sucked. It took him 6 days to do what he said he would do in two. Then he said that when he took a rear brake drum off it was all messed up inside. So all I said was I had great brakes and made it to your shop just fine. What I think happened was he completed the work and took it for a test drive and that's when something came loose in the rear drum. Come to find out that two of his three mechanics quit him last week. I told him to leave the brakes alone that I would fix them myself. What I really want to do was punch the lying SOB in the mouth. But I didn't, I just paid the man and left forever.
I guess this is a good time to think about a rear disc brake conversion.

Ouch. Glad that the gears work. And good call on doing the brakes yourself. You can't get good help these days. (Not meaning you mysunshine ;) )

The 4:10 gears are excellent but I think Stump Jumper could have easily taken 4:56 gears and still be great as a daily driver. I still need to change the gear ratio settings in my Computer but no doubt the fuel mileage and performance is much better.

Next time you need gears or drive shafts, give me a shout  We have a guy down here, all he does is gears and drive shafts, been doing the same thing for over 40 years. Great work, great prices, no one I know, even with the crazy kamakazi buggies, has ever had problems with his work. He does a bunch of stuff on race cars and high HP street rods, too :wave:

Scrambler looks great

Looking at the pictures it is so obvious the brakes were not reassembled properly, that sucks, 👹

Wiper failure....My new wiper assembly is already history. Hanging up on every revolution. This is a new Crown assembly IIRC and the Wipeboy wiper arm upgrade. It looks to me like me like the WipeBoy longer motor link is causing my wipers to hang up but it could just be a combination of both. Lets just face facts, the Crown and Omix-Ada stuff is just not the quality the of OEM products. I have a Jeep YJ assembly which is much stronger and is supposed to fit a CJ but I have put off trying it. I guess this is as good a time as any to see if it works. Biggest problem to me is I have to pull the top back off to fold the windshield down because I have the dashpad replacement that fits between the windshield frame and the cowl frame. Just a another hiccup.
