I am looking to keep a CJ 8 stock ride height but need new springs and shackles. I see the Crown and Omix have options. Any experience with ride quality on these or suggestions for other options? I have used the BDS, but the shortest is 2.5”.

I think the OME 2.5" lift YJ springs would give you close to factory ride height, if you used CJ length shackles and mounts (you'd want to move the front mount forward a little bit)... and the ride quality would be excellent!

If you're restoring a stock Jeep though, then this probably isn't what you're looking for.

Good luck!

I don’t know if they still sell them, but Superlift used to sell a 1” lift spring. It might fill the bill for you.

I had a set of Superlift 1" springs, too stiff. I removed them and installed the BDS 2" YJ springs on my green Scrambler, rides much better :twocents:

I'm running General Spring 6 leaf YJ springs (spring over 1 tons).
Happy so far but not near your stock application.

They flex out okay.

I spoke to General Spring Support, he suggested count the leaves to match factory or get the original part number as he is showing about a dozen different part numbers. Anyone have part numbers front and rear or an all original to count number leaves from and rear?

The OEM springs for the Scrambler depend on the model year, engine, transmission, top, if for export, and type of duty it's planned for.
I could get you the number of leaves and part number for your particular set up with that info.

Thanks for your help... 1984 CJ8 Laredo with 4.2, 4 speed, 1/2 cab hardtop, light duty...

I spoke to General Spring using part numbers above and here is what they said...

Front OEM Number 536-3229 converts to General Spring part number 97-412, four leave spring rated at 640 lbs, same as factory original.

Rear OEM Number 536-3331 converts to General Spring part number 97-513, six leave spring rated at 985 lbs about 55 lbs more than factory original

I am using YJ 4 leaf packs, 2" lift, front and rear, on my green Scrambler, from BDS. The spring rate on the BDS springs is 300 lbs.

I am wondering if the 640 lbs is for a pair of springs?

I recommend doing a jeep yj old man emu 2.5" springs but order the soft springs then remove 2 of the small bottom leaf springs. I removed 1 bottom off my rear right and it leveled my Jeep and got rid of the jeep lean while reducing ride height in that corner about .5". 2 would probably drop it 1" and with the soft springs they'll sit lower than mine does. The ride will be unbelievably nice if you do this. Just a theory.
