B-D Company purchases Specialty Top Co. patterns and equipment!!!

This may be a stupid question or idea but......would any of you guys still like to have a button style top as an option. I would figure that some restoration guys would still like to have this option and frankly I kind of would as well. I know the belt rail system is great and very functional and sooooo much easier to use but the nestalgia of the buttons is kind of cool to me. Plus if they are all going to be belt rail I am going to have a lot of holes to fix :-). What are ya'lls opinion on this? Also I sent my email asking questions like would you still be able to roll up the windows safari style or would you have to completely unzip them and store them somewhere. Ya'll know what I'm talking about right? Roll the windows up and then strap them up tight liket the old ones. I know that this makes them really easy to scratch but so would having to take them all the way off an store them somewhere when not in use. Am I crazy for wanting these old options?

Heather told me they'll be doing both snap - either chrome or black - and the fastrac systems. Again, they're going to be made to order which is why they'll cost a bit more than Bestop. And as has been mentioned, they'll be available in just about every color you can imagine.

Ahhhh....This is all good news.
Unfortunatly for me, I bought a Best-top a year ago...figures :rolleyes::banghead:

On a bright note though (for me at least), they are making Jeepster Commando tops!!!:woot::cheers::woot::thumbsup:

I'll need two of those very soon, well one at least for now.

I just hope they can really make a go of this, they have a huge market available to them with alot of forgotton 4x4's out there that will need tops (Scouts, Bronco's, Samurai's, ect.). \
The market is there if they can tap into it. :fingerscrossed:

WHen this comes out, and my current top is dead (or when I paint the Jeep) I'll get a top (as lone as its like the Kayline) I'll GLADLY sell my brand new Bestop sitting in a box in my basement!!!

yeah after i do all the work i want to do to my scrambler, there is no way i would want to rivet button snaps into the body. i like the belt rail system best.

Well I got some good news and some bad news today. The good news. The tops should be ready by end of May. They are having to change the windshield piece and change the way the top goes into it. The bad news for me. The top will cost around $1300.00 for the basic material top and price goes up from there for other materials. No soft doors. If you want the soft doors it will be a longer wait. The soft door skins will cost around $450.00 and if you want the metal for the inside of the doors that will be an extra $150.00

For me thats a total of around $2000.00 with shipping. Very expensive. Im alittle disappointed. I thought around $1500.00 for top and doors would be where the price would fall. That would be $400 more than bestop. But double the price is a little too steep.

Karl

top cost.

I too was hoping for a cheaper price. Although we now have an alternative to bestop cheap foreign tops. I might be willing to pay that steep price if their products were made in America.

They are made in Colorado. I would pay a steeper price but it doesnt include the doors.

Karl

OUCH!!! thats too much for me too. guess I will try to repair my Kayline as much as possible.

See the quality......

I'll reseve judgement on price until I have seen the build / quality. I hope they haven't priced themselves out of the market to where we can determin the quality.

We got one of the very last tops before they went out of business. I didn't like the way the doors attached and we had a new set of Bestop doors we used they work great and you can't tell there from a different company. I have a new set of Specialty top co doors in grey with tinted windows that might be for sale.

FYI to all. As this company is not a vendor on the forum and they have been notified (very politely) and have been very understanding and considerate of our forum rules, please do not post any other information here about pricing, availability, etc. on this top. I know we had forum members working with them and I'm glad that they were able to make a go of it, but at this point it's moving over to a commercial thread (I know they didn't post the pricing, but the end result is the same).

Please understand that this is simply enforcing part of the forum rules and the company was notified well before this post and are understanding of the situation.

On any photos, anyone who has purchased a top please keep any photos on your own build threads and not here, anyone posting pictures of any test/non-purchased/complimentary top will have them deleted.

We hope to see these come to market and would be happy to see B-D as a forum sponsor soon. I'm not closing the thread altogether, but will be monitoring it for anything that's a violation of the commercial posting as a non-vendor rule.

Also, just a note, we reserve the right to edit/delete any post in this thread before or after this one.

Yes, a used 1. Not the answer you wanted but not untrue in most case. I bought a full Kayline top with 2 piece doors when I heard they where closing. Did not pay $1000 for it. Also would take $1500 for but it's not for sale anyway. Never opened the box, haven't seen the box in 10 years, hopefully mice haven't either.

Thanks for the honesty. I appreciate that. I’m not sure what direction I want to go with it. I would like to use it a little over the winter though. Thanks again

I got the last STC top before they went out of business. I wsed the Bestop doors they worked better. I still have the new STC doors. I could take the whole Jeep to Denver for a fitting.
