Oh
Hey all, after recently really getting into the history of cj8's and finding a "diamond in the rough" for myself, I was wondering what everyone recommended on where to find more CJ-8's and people who own them. How did you all find and purchase your scramblers and what advice would you give someone like my father who is looking for his own CJ-8 project car to call his own? Thanks!

FB market place for one in your area
FB groups for Scramblers across the country. Buy and ship it

Looks like you are in Ohio. Wife is from Dayton. I would look in the northwest or southwest for a relatively rust free Jeep. There is some scary/rusty stuff driving the streets of Ohio without inspections needed.

A quick search of CL found 2 Sherman TX $29500, Steam Boat Springs CO $14000

I will definitely keep that in mind thank you!

CL? I've found a lot of nicer scramblers but I am really trying to find a solid project for a good price (within reason of course). Thanks for the response!

Craigs List.

What is within reason? Everyone's definition is different... also solid project prices are up quite a bit these days.

Found both of mine locally, basically word of mouth. I live in Central Oregon. There have been several for sale here lately, I think the fully built one for $72k is still available. But there was a decent one for $16k on Craigslist too- a driver with no rust. I paid way less than I should have for both of mine- but that was years ago. I was surprised to find there are about 15 Scramblers that I know of in Central Oregon.

Oh wow, are they all listed on craigslist? I might have to give it a search. Thanks!

CL is dying thanks to the abomination that is FB marketplace. You're also going in at what I believe is the absolute highest pricing that Scramblers (and CJs in general) have ever seen, so be ready and good luck. Be ultra-mega-careful when dealing with any sellers on FB marketplace.

Back country driving, off the beaten path, word of mouth, paying attention to conversations, being that Jeep guy that everyone wants to tell about what they saw; those have been the best ways I've ever found Jeeps. That and the eyes of my much younger sons.

"being that Jeep guy" has brought more Jeeps and parts to me than anything else.
