I’ve been looking at this scrambler under blackberry bushes for over a year now. Knocked on the door twice but never got to chat with anyone. Was out for a Sunday drive with my Jeep and saw some movement on the property. Swung in, the man has been bedridden for the better part of a decade but was up and about and feelin chatty. Didn’t offer cash, but it was very apparent that he’s got plans for her and others had stopped by with offers and he told them right off… Whether or not he accomplishes any of these plans, he acknowledged, was anyone’s guess. We talked for an over an hour about the places he used to go with his scrambler, exchanged numbers, and he said I could stop by any time just to talk jeeps. She’s rough, but a lot of cool original Laredo parts, some light mods, and from what I could tell, the rust is only on the surface.

Had one that sat on the back corner of a small lot close to Ann Arbor for probably a decade and one day it was gone, never to be seen again. Looked like a basket case and always wondered what happened to it.

The Jeepster I purchased came from a situation just like that. Older gentleman, collector. He had 2 Willys Wagons, the Jeepster, a Waggy rolling chassis, 2 XJ’s, 2dr Chrysler 440 Imperial, and several Dodge/Chev/IH pickups. Most all the vehicles were in varying stages of disassembly. His wife had “the talk” with him a few weeks prior to my buddy seeing the Jeepster. She basically said “ If you die and leave me to clean up this junkyard…”. When I picked up the Jeepster we spoke about that for a while, and he actually acknowledged that even though he had great intentions, he was running out of time and energy. So basically everything and anything was for sale if the price was right.

There was one 90 seconds from my house. Told the guy I was very interested. It was beat and complete and had alot of SE parts on it. Left my #, told him I am right around the corner. One night I was driving and saw it heading away on a trailer in the dark......sucks.....

One thing we all need to remember- you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. And, sometimes persistence doesn’t pay off.
You are 100% correct. It's worthwhile at least asking. It's how I ended up with my 1929 Chevy pickup. My dad and I saw it in an old barn. The door was open and the guy was making an attempt to get it started. Stopped in and talked to the guy for a good while and left my number. A month or 2 later he calls me and we made a deal. Long story short the guy's wife didn't want it back at the house so we bought it.
