1981 Forest service Scrambler.

Didn't the 4 cylinder have a shift light on the dash ?

My 81 did not. I read on the internet that the shift light started in 84. Not sure of the accuracy of that though.

Does anyone know which engine mounts are on the frame. Maybe these will narrow it down.

Good to know. I'm going to order some one piece axles for the AMC 20, but keeping the 373 gears. With a V8 and the kind of driving sladed for it, I think I'll be fine.

With low max in the Dana 300, it won't get hurt.

The 1985 in my yard is non-Cali with shift light on the dash @Jeep Addict

Frame mounted engine mounts look the same, I remember mentally noting the long "cuts" in them, part of the motor mount keys into these "slots".

@spankrjs yeah but that great running rust free 85 4cyl came from Cali. Shift light was probably installed as soon as it crossed into that awesome state!

Am I blind? I did not see one on the dash photos in that thread. Where is the shift light when they are factory installed?
I think it’s right above the steering column to the right if I remember correctly

I dunno, looks like a heck of a project.
Need me to clear it away 😉👍
Thats going to be a cool 8
