Here are some pictures of my brother's Scrambler as it sits right now. Our goal was preserving the history of the jeep while modifying for use at his farm. The top is off an Alaskan Postal. We opted to use the original doors with sail panels for the radius doors. The rear swinging door was damaged so we sectioned it and converted it into a lift gate so we could use the original tailgate. The tailgate is a great work surface and the lift gate a nice awning for rain. Custom sliding windows were ordered from an RV / Marine window company.

What on earth are you towing with it that needs a 7 pin connector?
Nice work all the way around!

We tow nothing that needs trailer brakes with this one. We just use the rv plug rather the the 4-way flat on every trailer we tow regardless if it has trailer brakes because it is easier to install with gloves on when it is cold. It also keeps our fleet universal rather than making sure every vehicle has an adaptor.

That is spectacular.
Any chance you took photos of the conversion process on the rear door?

Sorry, this is the only pic I found of re-hemming the front of the lift gate and sectioning the back piece in. We re-folded the lower lip and welded in steel to fill the lock holes.

Repurposed CJ7 lift gate hardware - built as if AMC Jeep would have done it in the factory

We swaged the cables for the new length.

We sourced stainless steel hinges (not seen in pictures) from a marine supplier for the lift gate. At the head of the lift gate we cut in an access hole to slip in a 1/4" steel nut bar (threaded for hinge fasteners) the length of the head for reinforcement. This helps support the weight of the lift gate and the pressure due to the struts.

Material (marked out in black) that needed to be removed for tailgate to function.

A little piece of this profile was welded in from the horizontal structure across the window opening. The top came with a window opening hacked into it on one side of the top only.

A flat sliding glass frame worked good for this opening.IMG_0152 2.jpeg

The original lighting is re-lamped with LED so it can be switched off the courtesy light on headlight switch. The lamp above the lift gate is controlled by an NOS cargo lamp switch mounted in the stock location on the postal (inside the tailgate support)

Too damn cool. I love this! That's probably the best looking top I've seen on an 8 actually.

Here are what I am calling the sail panels. They are sectioned from a scrap CJ7 top and coped into the Postal door opening. Held in place with 3M double sided tape and them caulked in with white 3M seam sealer. I know the angles of the heads of the Postal doors and radius doors don't match perfectly but the weatherstrip seals well enough for us.

Removed the old broken sealant from between panels and along gutter. Replaced with 3M Seam Sealer

3M White Seam Sealer (tooling knife in the background)

3M 2 part panel bonding adhesive

Pumped the 3M panel bonding adhesive into the header above the windshield. Clamp hold downs are in addition to the stock fasteners mounted up through the windshield frame.

This is a genius idea to create these! Scrap tops everywhere that you could snag this area from. Fantastic.
