Spacing out the wheels with an 1 1/2" spacer will just about get rid of your backspacing. That's not a problem for the rear axle but is harder on the front axle and steering. The proper but more costly way to fix that is with widetrack axles which may be out of the question for you. It would be...
I've had spring over axles (SOA) done. I'm on my second go around with SOA and it works great and rides great now. But the swap is not basic, it's not available with a kit and it's hard to get right. Most common problems are axle wrap, bad highway manners and stressed drivetrain. I've ended up...
I like the Mastercraft Rubicon seats also. I ordered mine from Mastercraft with the lumbar support installed. Didn't know I could get them +2" wide. I'm 275lbs and if I did it again I would skip the lumbar and get them wider. I rode in them for 8 1/2 hours back from Hot Springs after I treed my...
I also agree that the stock widetracs will work. The one piece axle conversion will do the trick in the rear. TruTracs front and rear work great for a mostly street vehicle. The 5 bolt locking hubs on my Dana 30 were problematic as the bolts on the hub wouldn't stay tight. Most guys will tell...
I have the same radiator that you have. I used a flex fan and spacer with no shroud. I live in southwest Louisiana and it works fine. I have a "Robert Shaw" thermostat and my temps are fine. that was with and without stock fenders. I did buy 2 flex fans because the first one came close to the...
I guess I'll put my 2 cents in on SOA lifts. I used RRO's kit and would not recommend them because of their customer service or great lack of it. I ditched their kit for the front SOA and went with a MORE SRS kit. The front high steer kit from RRO for the Dana 30 is about the only thing I would...
Has anyone installed a 700R4 behind an 258? Is this a reasonable alternative for overdrive. I presently have a T5 and will be running 4.88's with 37" tires. Obviously if I start pushing on the T5 it probably wont hold up. I really don't want an NV4500 because I don't want to lift the body for it...
Sounds like you need to look into TruTracs front and rear. I don't think a locker on snow or ice would be the best solution. You wont get the wheel spin from the inside tire with TruTracs as you would from a locker, selectable or not. I have used TruTracs and they work great for a street driven...
My Cj8 was sprayed tub and bulkhead all in one piece. It doesn't look very good once the bulkhead is removed. My suggestion would be to spray the tub floor, wheelwells and firewall. If you spray the sides you will need to mask off where the bulkhead fits the sides or you will have problems...
Spyderlocks are nice wheels, but if you need them now that may be a problem. I had been trying to get a set of 17" wheels since November. I had to opt out and get a set of Raceline Aluminum Beadlocks's. I was told that the soonest they would possibly have blanks for wheels would be in February...
If you are 90% street I would suggest TruTrac's. They are the perfect solution for bad conditions on the street. They work just fine offroad for light trail use. I have them in my CJ8 and have found them to work fine unless you start trying to go over larger rocks where one wheel may want to...
From where you're at right now, probably needing to replace everythingto be on the safe side I would opt for something else. There are a lot of options out there. A Dana 44, 9", HD AM20 and even larger options. Start looking, there's a lot of information out there.
Leaving in the morning. Dropping the Scrambler off at Golden Mountain Park. Heading to Pennsylvania. Should be back in Sparta by Wednesday. 1420 miles just to Pennsylvania. Gonna have a hard time sleeping tonight.
See Ya'll there,
Peter
