Good write-up. Thanks for sharing, Randy.
I'm building us a small house right now. It's been a ton of learning, taking a builder's license course (not necessary, but very helpful), dozens-upon-dozens of hours studying the code book, scrimping/saving/budgeting, and a lot of hard, hands-on...
I will look into this more. I believe, however, I read that the Pertronix conversion is very straightforward if you have a Delco distributor, but mine is a Prestolite distributor. I'll do some searching and see what I can find.
I love it, too.
I understand your suggestion, but I'm specifically trying to avoid any kind of computer control on the Jeep. It'll be an around-town driver (not long distances), so I'll feel it out and see how it goes. If it wasn't such a low-mileage, basically original vehicle, I'd consider...
Thanks, Hank. BTW, the company my wife works for has a facility in Ooltewah (Miller Industries). I'll have to give you a shout if we get over that way in the future.
It appears to be hand-painted on the hood. The brightest paint (top layer in the middle) has peeled off on the passenger side, and much of it on the driver side, as well. I definitely dig the lettering.
It's now running...rough, but running. I'm still waiting on some tune-up parts from RockAuto. The gearing feels tall with the 3.73s and 31" tires, but it's also jumpy just because it's running rough. A healthy-sized exhaust leak is also gassing me out in the now-enclosed Jeep. :ROFLMAO...
Thanks, John. Mine's a Prestolite distributor. I ordered a set from Rock Auto last night that looks correct...we'll find out soon enough. The ones from Napa were a mirror image of what I needed, so I'm not sure if they gave me ones for a Delco distributor or what.
Thanks, guys.
My wonderful neighbor helped me get the soft top installed today. We used his propane heater inside the Jeep to warm it up, which did the trick...barely. It was still super tight! I still have a couple little details to finish up, and have to get a couple door channel pieces...
I'm personally a big fan of the '10a front ends (I used to own two of them). What I'd really like to do is just run a '10a grill with stock (or aftermarket) CJ fenders with some sort of "external" headlight setup supported by custom brackets bolted to the sides of the grill (fender mounts)...
On a bright note, all of the hardware measurements/install went smoothly. The top was too cool/stiff to finish up today, though. My neighbor offered to let me bring it into his nice garage and heat things up with a propane heater, which should help.
I also had to order some windshield-mounted...
My new '6 delivered today...in the downpouring rain. Couldn't get it started, but I wasn't going to mess with it too much in the downpour. I did confirm that it has 3.73 gearing, which I suspected...should be good around-town gearing. Tires are 31" x 10.50", and are in beautiful shape...
