1983 Scrambler resto

Got a little accommplished tonight. Bled the brakes and tightened a fitting at the rear and re-bled. Work well. Used Dot 5 silicone brake fluid. Seems to give a softer pedal but the power brakes work well. Re-bled the clutch and it works fine.

Pulled the connection apart under the dash between the rear harness and the main harness. Discovered that the plug comes apart so switched the green wire and green wire with the tracer for the rear lights. Now the left blinker works when you pull the turn signal switch down, and the right works when you pull the switch up. Fixed. Thanks to those that suggested the fix. Plug and play with the Painless harness.

Put both front fenders on and they look great. Not as tall as I thought it might be but will add 33's later. Blew low beam on a headlight so will re-order a bulb tomorrow. HID. Very nice.

Anybody know the shifter pattern for the transfer case? Dana 300? 4 low up, 4 high, nuetral, then 2 high all the way down? That's the way it seems to work on this case.

Pics tomorrow. And its FUN to drive!

Need pic: anyone have a pic of a Laredo leather-wrapped passenger side grab bar? Need detail regarding the stitching, and ends. Thanks in advance.

MM1, have the grab bar at a saddle shop to have it wrapped like your pic. To do Saturday and get to me next week. Will mount then.

Got the front clip and windshield and doors and tailgate mounted for final. Hinges are painted one time off, then installed and then we will tape off and paint final and clear today or tomorrow. You can see the hinges in pics are flat green (pre clear) and with SS bolts. The bolts are to be painted body color.

Added new door strikers because the originals had cracks from years of slammin. Installation.

Installed the windshield frame. Wipers don't work yet, however.

Grill and fenders on loosely-- to add hood later and tighten after all fitted properly.

Fender installed.

Pic of front clip on. Again, not adjusted 100% yet. Hood to go on.

Couple side shots of clip on.

Assembled doors. Got them closed but with new rubber all around, did not fit well so Art pulled them together with a strap. Within 4 hours they fit fine but will leave the strap on for 2-3 days for rubber to shrink down.

And the final back in the garage.Adjusted all and tightened it up. It was dark out so pic not great but the clip, hood, doors and tailgate are on finally!

Stripes going on this weekend; at least that's the plan. Need to fix oil pressure gauge, tachy meter and clock. Add A/C under dash, wire and hook up under hood and clean it all up.

Question: anyone hook up a tachymeter? I have fuel injection too so that seems to factor in somehow. Any ideas are appreciated.

OK. Getting some work done. Ironing out the bugs and driving it around.

Wipers did not work and thanks to prior threads figured out that the motor was not grounded. So had to drop the windshield and take it back apart and figure it out.

When the wipers ran, and sounded like it was binding and scraping inside so the motor came off til I figured it out. What do you think it was?

RA131-1.jpg

The sheetmetal screws holding the rubber to the bottom of the windshield were too long and the arm was scraping against it. Easy fix. Now the wipers work, including the intermittent.

Buttoned it all up and reinstalled the top and fixed the tachometer under the hood and cleaned up the wiring.

Mounted the HID ballasters.

RA19-1.jpg

Installed the console; need to finish. Hooked up stereo in console and need to finalize it. Sound comes from the sound bar overhead.

RA161-1.jpg

Cut all the unused wiring under the hood and wrapped it up for any future use. All remains labeled. Green and purple wires are hidden now.

RA151-1.jpg

Installed 'Jeep' stickers and modified "Sahara" sticker to each side. 'Jeep' is gold lettering.

RA121-1.jpg

Stickey. Used plenty of soapy water. Good practice for bigger stickers.

A side shot while working.

Got the go-ahead to order new wheels and tires. The old wheels and tires will go up for sale. Had the 'old' exhaust system re-installed last week, and had all fluids changed. Runs well.

Work, er, fun continues.......

Good god she is coming along nicely. I am quickly becoming a green fan on the CJ8 Jeeps and I dont really liek the color but you are the second 8 I have seen with it and it just works.

Thanks for the compliments. Jim's chop shop, the top was on it when I got it and they don't make them any more, that I have found. It was made in Colorado by a company called "Specialty Top Company", I believe.

KK, I'm thinking about 33's with a chrome Procomp wheel similar to what's on the CJ5 we have. It needs a little height.

Kane, the final look will change alot too when the final stripes are added, 1982 stripe kit with yellow and terracotta. It will break it up quite a bit.

:)

I see from the current pictures you got your grab bar covered...it looks pretty good from the angle

post some close up's of it

MM: I have them at home and will add them later. It came out well- hand sewn at a saddle shop.

The grab bar looks great! Your whole jeep looks great too!
