1983 Scrambler resto

Craner8

I got a delay wiper switch off off of ebay

my wiper motor has three leads...do I need a 4 lead motor? if you had to switch were you able to buy it locally or had to order it from one of the jeep parts stores

I think so. I bought a complete system from a guy in Savannah, then realized my Jeep had them already, I think. I had taken it apart. I'll look and see if I have one. If I don't, I bought my from Jay at Salvage Jeep in Savannah. He knows me. Number is on internet.

Ogres and MM, thanks for the compliments. I like it too. It does not look factory made and is unique to the Jeep.

Need to work on the radio in the console tonight. Elected not to drill holes in the floorboard to route wires from sound bar to console. Ran them in black plastic from first bench seat to console, total of 18 inches. Will do same with electrical wires from under dash and antenna wire.

Any ideas on oil pressure gauge? No movement. New sending unit on block. Wire is correct per Painless. Will check wiring on gauge and ground on gauge next. Then gauge itself....

Drove it around town last night. Nice here-- 60 degrees at night. Great for Jeep.

new wheel vote for me would be something darker (but not black, I think that style may have run its course)..

your color combination has a distinctly "utility" feel to it, the green/olive paint, the tan/leatherish colors, and the black trim.. I think it would be odd (not bad but odd) to contrast that with shiny wheels.. I'd look at something like the ATX Mojaves or similar "teflon" coated rims.. nice sharp metallic dark color, kind of like a calphalon fry pan.. I think they used to have them available in 5x5.5 by 16 and 17 inch diameters, which might make for a more modern look to complement the fresh details.. 2 cents

no matter what, your end product will be beautiful as they work you've done so far is fantastic.. can't wait to see the endresult

and that custom sticker is very cool.. not sure if you posted something about how you did that, but would be interested to see!

The stickers were made at a print shop and patterned after the Sahara sticker. I'll look at the wheels. You're right. Maybe something not so bright. Have not ordered yet.

Got more accomplished. Fixed the radio problem and cleaned up the wiring and mounted it in the center console. Determined that the oil pressure gauge was bad so ordered another one and installed. There is NO room under the dash once the A/C was installed so removed the radio delete plate and accessed it thru there. Tight! Wife actually got her hand in there and tightened it up. Reinstalled the radio delete plate using velcro this time for easier access. All gauges and lights on the dash work. Planning on painting the hinges for the final time Sunday when its dry. Then install the stickers. Still considering wheel and tire package.

Had the front end aligned but it still doesn't 'return' so need to consider wedges up front. However, drove it 200 miles last weekend and it ran great. Very tight, no rattles, ran 75 mph straight down the highway. :woot:

Leaks-- several in the drive train; Gear oil dumping out rear of transfer case and at rear diiferential so will have seals replaced. Lower radiator hose loosened up and leaked--tightened it up and it's good.

Pics tomorrow.

Anybody have a closeup pic of the Jeep sticker on the front hubs? Need to have 2 made in a custom color. Thanks.

That's it. Thinking about having one made that's either gold background or the color of the Jeep, Desert Sage Metallic.

Got a little done today between family visiting. Found some thicker clear 3M tape and put on the door sills to prevent the paint from getting scratched when we get in and out. Fixed the wiper washer-- ground not hooked up. Works great and adjusted the squirter on the cowl. Tightened up the passenger door bolts- flew open on road from being out of adjustment. Replaced a body bolt and bushing that fell out in driveway. Touched up dash where paint came off. :christmas:

4miles--Thanks and happy holidays to you and your family.

Is there a source for the 2 rubber bumpers on the dash to the glovebox door? Or just go to any paint supply store?

Installed the painted glovebox door yesterday. Got backup lights working too. Ground down screws on steering shaft that were contacting lower radiator hose and wearing a hole in it.

May try to prep and paint the hinges tomorrow and work on stripes. Wheels and tires on order and to arrive Monday. Will post pics when on.

The paint store may have something. I found some rubber bumpers that worked in the slide out trays where all the specialty hardware is at in about any hardware store.

I would think if that Skycraft surplus by your house does not have something that would work they must not make it.

Chris, you're right. I'll check there first. Finally got a card reader for the camera to upload some pics.

Painted the hinges for the final time.

Started by taping off all of the hinges. Very tedious. Did not want it to appear that they were painted on the body.

Then taped around and covered entire Jeep with plastic.

Art painted them. Color match was perfect.

The final finish on the windshield frame hinges.

And the door hinge.

Installed pieces from dash to windshield in final paint.

Mirrors mounted.

And on to the fun stuff! Striping. Spent better part of yesterday, Sunday, installing them.

Not complicated but tedious. Place carefully (tape, measure etc.) Wet truck and sticker with soapy water, thoroughly. Apply, squeegee (spelled wrong?) till bubbles out and let sit at least three hours. I removed backing paper next day by wetting backing paper and pulling slowwwly til removed and then remove any bubbles.

Driver's side.

Art working out any bubbles. He did a great job; looks great Art!

Hood decal.

Starting to remove the paper on the passenger side.

F6-1.jpg

And the final on the driver's side.

F3-1.jpg

And the hood.

F4-1.jpg

And the right quarter. Can see a little of the body stripe at the bottom.

F2-1.jpg

And the driver's side. Last 2 taken in garage so a little dark. Stripe on passenger side at bottom is applied but no good pics now--too dark. Installed driver's side body stripe and will remove backing paper tomorrow.

Now, I'm told by the wife, the 'New Smyrna Beach' sticker does not work. So I stopped at the print shop today to have it colored with yellow and terracotta to match the striping. I'll replace it.

:)

One thing I forgot to mention: we noticed that it appeared that the vinyl stripe on the hood is 'pieced' together on the right side near the front, like the vinyl wasn't wide enough to accomodate the width of the sticker. It's a very obvious line, and not noticable until it's too late. I was a little surprised considering they came from Phoenix Graphics. If that's factory, then I'm o.k. It'll work here but if it's not like factory, it wouldn't be acceptable in a 'high point' restoration. Just a note.

I wasn't sure how I would like those color stripes on that color green but I think I'm gonna love it! I can't wait to see pics of the whole thing! Great work! Thanks for bringing up the issue with the hood stripe. I was going to ask you what you thought of the Pheniox Graphics kit (print quality, fitment and how well it all lined up)?

Scrambler looks great:thumbsup:

Your paint job looks flawless:drool: I like how you can see the reflection of the bicycle in your paint job in one of the pics:cheers:

I really like how the stripes help to break up the single color paint jobs that most Scramblers have. I plan on putting stripes on mine, too. Besides the hood decal issue, any other comments or concerns about your decals?
