1983 Scrambler resto

Put the rear harness where it belongs based on the pic provided. Thanks again.
Where does the vent hose from the rear diff goes--right rear frame behind the wheel well?
RA23-1.jpg

Also ran the harness thru the frame into the cab and hooked up under dash at left.

Finished up the connections to the left and right rear lights. Wrapped, grounded and zip tied up and out of way. Had to connect three prong plug--bought at surplus store, Skycraft, for 50 cents each.

Right rear.

Scored some speakers at Skycraft, from Mopar. New in box. $9.95 each. Don't know what kind of sound they'll produce but will see. Made need to remove dash to install on driver's side--it's tight. Had a new trans cover made and ready for paint.

Need to install fuel fillers hoses, vent line for rear diff install Tach, speakers etc. this weekend.

I ran mine right along the top of the frame and up as high as you can get it in the well where the passenger tail light is. There is a bracket all the way at the top to attach it to. Here is a picture of it.

I just used one on each connection of the vent and filler hose (4). My hoses were not in bad shape.

Got the fuel filler tubes installed. Used original tubes- top line seems kinked but its on correctly. Fuel filler is bottom and its ok. Took day and went to Gainesville for a horse show today-- our other 'hobby'. Daughter competed and took several firsts. Beautiful area.

Got the rear fender flares on last night and tonight. There's a learning curve- install all 8 screws with backings, and leave all the screws loose until all are installed then tighten each one. Driver's side took 90 mins, pass side took 30.

Drivers side.

Passengers side.

The tires and wheels will be replaced; I've got Goodyear MTR's (305's) with Pro-Comp chrome wheels on the CJ5 and may put those on this and see what it looks like.

Then installed the new tach. Had an original that I took out.

Took all the top frame parts to powder coating last week and had them sand blasted and powdercoated satin black. Found the part I was missing too and dropped it off yesterday.

Will roll the Jeep out tomorrow and take a look at the top frame parts and begin installing them. Also, need to hook up the gas tank wire and ground, then on the the front end!

Question: ran 2 vent lines from gas tank out the back to connect now after frame is on. Where can I get a vent that will allow fumes to escape but keep water out--5/16 line? Can't find any here. I'm thinking the valve will be like the valve in the rear diff vent and I can run it along with the rear diff vent up into the rear wheel well.

Tank vent line

It looks like you got the 20 gal tank like mine. The 2 vent lines originally tee together and run along the frame on the drivers side to the charcoal canister that is mounted on the fire wall. The rollover checks are the white fittings that the line is connected to on top of the tank.

Thanks 4miles.
I am not going back to the charcoal cannister. Those lines were cut and disconnected. The pic helps. One of the check valves on mine broke when I took it apart so I put a put a plug in it and anticipate running a 'rollover valve'/check valve on the 2 lines left to the rear with diff. line.
Your pics are very helpful; show the actual lines. May need to see more. I lost mine when my computer crashed.
Where can I see pics of your renovation? Thanks.

Tank vent lines

If you contact manicman you may be able to get the part numbers for rollover checks and grommets. I believe he was able to cross reference to a wagoneer or something and got them from the dealer. I got mine back together last year about the same time. That would have been tough if I had lost my pictures. There were things I wish I had taken more of and I took like 600. I did have a few of my pictures posted in the gallery which is not up right now. You can get to them in a round about way by going here.

Need help! I have a tan soft top, clips in a rail system, brand unknown, probably about 4 to 5 years old. Having trouble re-installing.

Anyone have any pics or ideas? Not sure the brackets on each side are on correctly; can't figure out the rods that go forward into the top, to the windshield area and connecting where at the middle of the top? There are 3 'bows' that go across the top; 2 have snaps front and at rear, middle does not. Believe they are in correctly but can't attach rod to front mentioned above due to short length.

Will take pics if necessary.

Roll Over Check Valaves

I think these are what I used...measure yours to make sure the dimensions are right

New factory OEM Jeep fuel tank roll over VALVE and GROMMET.

This is the valve on the top of the tank that vents it until it rolls over, then it closes off to prevent fuel spill.

Fits most Jeep models 1984 to 1996. Including Wrangler YJ, Cherokee XJ and Commanche MJ XJ.

Fits other models too.

Grommet fits into a 1 3/8 inch hole. Rollover valve fits into 15/16 grommet hole.

Fits most models XJ YJ MJ ZJ 1984 1996

Brand new factory Jeep parts. Part number J5360058 and 52018823.

Thanks 4miles. That's it. Now I see the problem and can fix it. Will add pics when complete.

STC tops had a pdf online that showed how to install the top. Put it all together last night except for the windshield frame, which is not on the car yet. Otherwise, looks great. Thanks 4Miles. Will take the frame with glass to glass shop for install today, then can assemble the wipers, wiper motor etc. then attach to cowl. Buffed grill and windshield frame last night too. Can add radiator to grill and mount tonight. Will take pics today and post.

Thanks Manicman. Will look at them. Installed two interior lights on either side of the dash.

RA46-1.jpg

Is the driver's side in the correct place?

RA43-1.jpg

Had 2 factory looking clips that I removed when I took the interior/dome lights out. Where do they go? They appear to clip over wire to dome lights and into a hole about 3/8's in diameter maybe under dash?

Thanks to 4Miles, installed the top correctly. Awaiting three parts a powdercoaters to finish There's a footman loop on the rear passengers side that a strap goes to, to tie down the top. Whoever installed it drilled holes too big. What can I put into the holes to use correct size- JBWeld or something?

RA47-1.jpg

Powdercoated parts installed for the top too.

RA42-1.jpg

Had the glass installed today. Noticed that the vents will not fit where they belong on the inside of the windshield frame. Can't figure out why. Any ideas? Rubber appears to be installed correctly; its larger on the out side so that would not work. Replacement frame; poor quality? How can I install the vents?

RA41-1.jpg

Driver's side. Repainted the motor and installed all back in frame and lubed. Bought a 4-prong motor and wiring for intermittent wipers, only to discover that I already had all the right parts so have extra harness and parts.

Anyone point me to a site that has installation/mounting instructions for the a/c compressor? Bought a complete system for Collins Bros but no instructions on how the comp mounts. Has 4brackets. Any help is appreciated.

Ac

I was at CB a few weeks ago, and saw a fella buy a new OEM complete CJ AC system. I think he paid $995, if I heard it correctly. Is this about what you paid? I'm thinking of taking that plunge myself. Gotta have AC here in 105-degree, 90% humidity Texas.

Thanks!

I think it was $1100. Collins bros . Bought it because it appeared most original looking. There's jeepair too.
