1983 Scrambler resto

Need PICS! Can't figure out the A/C compressor mounting. Anybody have pics? Have unit from CB. If anyone has done it, is it possible to take pics of the brackets etc for me to mount this one? Thanks in advance. Craner8.

Happy Labor Day weekend, too!

I would talk to Collins, they need to supply some instructions or support for the product they sell. I was really looking forward to hanging out this weekend, but as I hope you know the AC at the house dies. Maybe I can take this CJ8 AC unit and install it at the house!!

I heard this am. Sorry about that. Did the boys get here and then you left? Will miss you here. Beach good today. I will call CB about it Tuesday. Did not install the steering box brace; I will break the bolt getting it out and can't fix here. :banghead:

Chris or anyone: Any ideas about why the vent openings in the windshield frame are obstructed/covered? Is the glass installed correctly?

Windshield Gasket

Looking at your picture it looks like your windshield gasket is inside/out compared to mine. It looks like we may have the same gasket. Here are a couple of pictures so you can see how mine is installed. Here is the outside, this looks like what you have inside by the shape.......

Here is the inside with the vent installed. Hopefully you can see the difference in the shape and your gasket is the same.

That's what I'm thinking. I am going to take it back to the glass shop and ask them about it. I mentioned it when I picked it up and asked if they could re-use the rubber if I needed it removed and he said they'de likely break the glass b/c its tempered. Oh well. Not sure that's my problem; problem was obvious when they finished it. I prefer it done correctly and the vents installed.

Any photos of a CB A/C compressor installed?

Will take your pics to glass shop with me. Thanks.

Got a little done tonight. Took the windshield back to the glass company and they removed the glass and installed it from the front. Now the vents fit fine.

Got the A/C compressor installed tonight. First pics aren't done correctly. Moved some brackets around.

Finished the brackets for the top, passenger side. Someone drilled screws too big, so I used locking clips behind the screws. Finished it up.

Working on the grill; installing the parts for the A/C on it, and then installing the headlights. Got HID lights to go in, then the shroud and set the grill onto the frame. Had the 2 bars supporting the grill to the body powder coated gloss black. When the harness is installed and everything else is done, will install them. Need to paint the hinges, install and final paint and clear them.

Are the screws that are on the front edge of the interior ac unit the only thing that holds it in place? After you figure out how to install, I have a couple of other questions too. Your project is coming along, I've been following from the beginning.

Thanks bobbysjeep. Yes, I have reviewed the instructions and it appears that the only thing that supports the unit are the screws to the dash. However, there is a bracket near the gas pedal that also supports the A/C unit that the kit had me install. Also, there are 2 hoses that go thru the cowl that I assume support it to some degree. I have not installed the interior unit yet so that I can install everything under the dash as necessary. Its been a slow-go but its coming together.

Haven't got them installed yet and may be few days. When they are in and functioning, will post pics. Bought them online from a comp in North Carolina.

did you rebuild your steering column yourself or sent it off?

My main leads were cut (a mechanic telling me he would fix my parking light issue) I was so mad....so now I am either looking for another column or rebuilding mine....

any suggestion would be greatly appreciated

Got a guy named Jay Newsome at Salvage Jeep in Statesboro GA that rebuilds mine- turn key when they are sent back-- all new parts and with new keys in them. I want to say about $300- $350 for tilt column. Like brand new from factory. He 's got a Jeep junk yard about 7 acres nothing but all kinds of Jeeps and parts. He'll do yours or sell you a column rebuilt by him. Great guy- easy to deal with. Actually went to see him this year and saw his yard for myself. If you need the number, its a home and can email this afternoon, or via internet at website.

Any ideas how to install the shifter? Can't figure it out yet. Ideas? Got transfer case installed tonight. Shifter installs, but won't shift properly. Frustrating--but close.

A little progress past few days. Need to remount the compressor so the hoses enter from the top. Easy correction. Installed the grill after I ordered the proper mount. Lost original in the rebuild somewhere and contacted Energy Suspension in California only to be told they don't sell individual parts but they referred me to a company elsewhere who sells single pieces. Began working on the headlights-H-4. Need to complete HID lights soon. Mounted in the grill with wire guards.

Added supports bars.

Will likely add new headlight rings; orginals need replacing.

Added new grab bar to the interior.

Finally, Art figured out the shifter and installed it last evening. Had a new trans cover made and fitted it over floor.

Took windshield frame back to glass installer and had him re-install it correctly so that vents fit frame inside. Also, installed the wiper arms, motor etc. and greased, nearly ready for installation- getting hinges painted first.

Finishing A/C to radiator to reinstall all into grill. On to wiring under hood.

Anybody have any pics of the location of the door stop bracket that goes inside the doors to the body? I know it goes about 6 inches down, just inside the opening. Can't find corresponding holes to attach it to. Thanks.

Door Stop?

Are you talking about the bracket that is on the inside of the lower door hinge?

Wireing

I may have missed it. Did you replace the wire harness. My Jeeps wireing is a mess. Im thinking it would be better to just replace the harenss. your thoughts?
