Needless to say there are no solid axles, no chassis as such and i guess its based on a Discovery/Range Rover floor pan.
The one i saw had an electrically operated tow bar that parked itself out of site and literally spun round and popped up when required 😁
 
Seems like I read that there was no plan yet on bringing the Defender here, but maybe a later date. I guess if people want to spend some money there is always the Hummer or Mercedes. I believe the Discovery is around if needed
 
They are in the states, petrol only i believe. They look like a Ford Flex on steroids. What a sad demise for the venerable Defender.

Pretty sure I saw one 2 weeks ago at the Jersey shore.
 
Seen a couple 4 door defenders around here. I don’t think the 2 door is available, but IDK.

Sad excuse for a LR.
 
Painfully slow on updates with my 8 but myself and a friend who can weld finally started work on my body tub.
Got one floor pan cut to shape and tacked in so he can finish welding at his leisure.
Hopefully get the other side done in a couple of weeks time.

I cant take the credit for the welding,thats my mates welding and why its taken so long to get to this point i have been waiting for him to get some time spare.
I know my limits! so i am in charge of cutting,shaping and panel beating, i can cope with that.
Honestly there would either be holes blown through everywhere or it would look like an incontinent sea gull had flown past if you let me loose with a Mig torch, best off leaving it to someone who knows what they are doing...
 
My welding buddy called in sick (get well soon Lee) so no body tub work this week, so as i had some enthusiasm and i am trying to push this thing along i risked attacking the hybrid windshield frame i bought off Ebay myself...
The thing i bought looks like a CJ frame that someone has tried to convert to a YJ frame.
I think (hope) it will all work out as the vent holes are all there and i can use the better YJ wiper setup but the downside is it came with a load of holes that look like they will just ler in water ion a CJ so i had a go at filling them with weld.
Tap them all in a bit and a bit of body filler i reckon it may actually work out okay, surprising it welded at all as the metal appears to be the thickness of a piece of tissue paper :banghead:

Not the best pics and certainly not quite up to @certifiablejeep project speed or standards but today was the time to cut out the rear cross member and fuel filler corner piece (which was seriously mangled).
The other corner looks salvageable so keeping that one (i hope).
Should be able to get these bits fine tuned and tacked in at some point soon and then its on to the dreaded wheel arches to sort out somehow...

Yes! Definitely keep those tailgate retainers... I am missing one on my tub and will have to borrow one from the other tub to do it... also the little rubber bump stops on the other side with the screw in them.

So, we are a couple thousand miles(few thousand kilometers) apart and thinking the same things... brilliant!

My advice... just put it in place and call it done :)
