Update on wheel / tire combo

In my haste to grab a set of tires when available I didn’t check the size of the Postal wheel. I’m not comfortable putting a 11.50 tire on a 6” rim. So the BFGs are being saved for the 15x8s for my ‘81. Grabbed some Mickey Thompson 31x1050 today at a heck of a price due to being discontinued. They supposedly measure right at 31” when mounted and BFGs notoriously measure small so all in all it’ll probably be a wash height wise.

Dropping off the Postal wheels and my ‘81 wheels at powder coat Monday

First and foremost big thanks to @Ron84cj for the phone conversation this week. I reached out to pick his brain concerning rear add-a-leafs since he has gone down this path before however slightly different.

To recap I have the 2.5” BDS CJ kit on the Postal. I purchased the AAL from BDS that is stated to fit YJs among others. They do not have a AAL kit specific to CJs but claim the kit I have works with the 4” CJ kits FYI.

Upon install a problem immediately smiled at me. At the rear the AAL lines up great. The front it was way too long. This is where I stopped and spoke to Ron before moving forward. As detailed in his thread he went with a different AAL kit from BDS that’s actually made for a Chevy Colorado and ended up with a nice setup. Since I had the YJ kit in front of me I made a decision. I cut 1.5” off the leading edge of the leaf. I then drilled a new hole for the plastic pad and finished the install. Will this hurt anything? Will this affect the “lift” the AAL will provide? Who knows. It’s easy enough to change out if there is an issue once the Postal is all together. AND if there is a problem Ron has paved the way for a different fix! 😁

Pics below show how the rear lined up and how off the front was. Last pic shows after I chopped and re-installed.

Looks good so far. Once you get the full weight on it double check it to make sure it still has room to flex.

Body work continues. Tub is ready for paint process. Few more spots on the dash to fill, spot on the left door where original large side mirror mounted, etc. next up will be the main top and sides.

Just noticed there is no second speaker in the postal dash... that is interesting.
What’s even more interesting is that they installed the studs on the back but didn’t cut the grills.

I have a similar looking pile of parts ready for paint, need to get the tub sides ready first though.
Arent those circled holes in your dash for the dashpad? Did Postals not get one of those either?.

Mine didn’t have a dash pad in it when I got it and those holes are very wallowed out so going to close them up. Can drill new ones if I decide on a pad.

Quick couple pics of the inside after paint. All parts will be painted, then assembled, the final “mist” coat to ensure evenness of color.

one small problem surfaced… the hole for the e-brake cable on the tunnel got welded closed! No big deal. I have measurements.
