Been a while since we had a Beer thread...

Happy waiting. And good luck. I have my share of both.

The second was from a tiny local brewery Chelsea Brewing, just down the road. Their oatmeal porter.

Smartmouth, a local brewery was excited to announce yesterday that they had won against Two Hearted Ale at the National IPA Championship in the first round. They won with their Rule G and also advanced with their double IPA Notch 9 which took a bronze at GABF last year. Not bad for a brewery that just celebrated their first anniversary a couple of months ago.

that bracket system looks pretty week. Way too many automatic bids to the next round. Need to trim that down to 48 or start with more beers.

I agree. Was not sure what you meant till I went back and looked at what link I posted. The IIPA does have a lot of automatics. I added the IPA which is the one I thought I was posting. It must have been before my second cup of coffee at 5 am or maybe the Enjoy By and Nugget Nectar from last night.

I'll buy anything that has the nitro widget in it.

My all time favorite was Abbot Ale, but they inexplicably quit using the widgets and it sucks now :banghead:

Why would they quit? Love those things! Cost? But losing customers has a cost too.

I am going on a brewmaster tour this evening at the Budweiser plant up here in New Hampshire... never been to something like that, should be exciting, hopefully they have some new things to taste test!!

cb

From the notice I got

MERRIMACK BEERMASTER TOUR

Stimulate your senses and satisfy your curiosity as you explore the art of brewing on the Anheuser-Busch Beermaster Tour. The tour provides a unique opportunity to experience a behind-the-scenes look at the brewing of Budweiser.

On the Merrimack Beermaster Tour you will visit the Brew House, Hop Room, Primary Fermentation Cellar, Lager Cellar, Packaging Facility, Quality Assurance and Finishing Cellar, including a sample directly from a Finishing Tank! The Budweiser Clydesdale Hamlet is also available to visit.

I like the part..." including a sample directly from a Finishing Tank! "

At the brewery i Williamsburg, they have/had what is called the Hospitality House (Ho House to us locals). They used to always have samples. And they test marketed the beers well before releasing. We got a sneak test of the King Cobra malt liquor. Ugh. Anyway. They used to have a train right from Busch Gardens for a late after park drink. It was nice. No more train to the Ho House but they still have the tours with samples.

My friend who worked there would get a case of beer every Friday with his paycheck.

The tour was a very cool adventure... followed by a lot of tasting in the tasting room, followed by pizza and more beers at the neighbors house followed by a very nice sound sleep.

The tour took us all over the plant, behind the scenes from the normal local free tour.
We got to taste fresh unpasteurized Bud Light that was in the process of being transfered to the pasteurization area to then go for bottling, or vice versa, those miles and miles of conveyer belts were a little confusing, all spread out over 8 acres.

We got to try some new Shock Top that they had out for trial testing, a honey bourbon type of concoction, pretty taste, but heavy on the bourbon.

I sampled

Shock top Honey Bourbon x2 because my wife didn't like
Black Crown
Amberbock
Bud Light Fresh unqueezed from the tank x2 it was "too cold" in there and wife didn't want to make her colder
Bud Light Platinum x2 again, wife didn't like
Stell Artois citroc or something like that... did not like, wife had to drink mine, very very sweet, like a cider but more sweet

The onto the neighbors house were there was an assortment of Redhooks and I brought some switchbacks

Sampled the ESB, audible ale, mudslinger and another one I can't recall.

it was a great time, however, the picture department was kind of low... as we had to turn our phones off due to the milling that was going on and I went straight from work, so I didn't have my other camera.

135 giiiii-normous tanks holding millions of gallons of beautiful liquid.

Once inside, had to use the restroom and walking out of it, this is what you see

All in all, a great day.
