I am so incredibly sick and tired of dealing with this company, just lift it. In the end of July 2018, I delivered my Scrambler, in hundreds of pieces to the shop. We agreed on a contract, seven months and $10,000 for them to build my jeep, make it a reliable daily driver for me. They have half of that money, in cash, and more than $30,000 of my jeep components. I have the receipts! They refuse to get back with me. They have been ignoring me for at least a year. They have never done anything to my jeep. They are simply storing it, or by now, they have parted it out and sold it. I have a contract, a list of parts, a bunch of receipts, a pretty competent lawyer involved, and a few friends who live near Indianapolis. I lived in Columbus for six years prior to A bicycle accident, rendering me a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the armpits down & a wheelchair user... That is why I recruited the shop to build my jeep. I am no longer able to do this kind of thing on my own. I had hopes that someday I would be able to drive a cool vehicle again. I have owned this jeep since 2005. This would have been the third engine swap and second restoration of the jeep I would have done, if you live in the area where I think you might be able to help me, please let me know. I think I have good lawyer representation, at this point I am looking for more people to become aware of the situation and put pressure on the shop to treat me a human being.

I am way too far away to help and certainly no lawyer but just wanted to say i feel for you and hope a solution is found quickly so you can get your Jeep back in your possession and find a proper company to put it together in exactly the way you want it.
Good luck and hope it all works out for you:fingerscrossed:

Sorry to hear that Chris. It seems to be a real crap shoot trusting a shop to restore your baby. My brother has been screwed over on a couple hot rod builds in MI over the years.
I think your best bet is to gather a hand full of guys to go down there and remove your parts. I'm afraid you'll have to cut your losses on the $. I'm sure an attorney would cost more than 5 grand. Good Luck! And keep us posted.

Sorry to hear that you’re having such a hard time with this shop. I’m with Rob....cut your losses and get your Jeep back. Re-group, and come up with a plan B.

If you go and try to get your stuff back, I would let the local authorities know ahead of time. Talk to an officer, let them know the situation and your plans incase trouble arises. Maybe live feed the recovery operation also. Bad publicity can't be good for business.

I absolutely agree with this. Don't go without an officer with you in case they get confrontational.

I have been aware of your situation for awhile. That anyone would feel OK with taking advantage of a customer, especially considering your circumstances, well, that’s unconscionable. I wish I was closer- I would be all over that shop. All I can do from here is say a prayer and hope all goes well. Please keep us posted.

I had a situation that a local shop held onto my stuff, did work I did not ask for, and then tried to charge me more for the work "that again I didn't ask for!" I contacted the local police department, went down there with them, and got my stuff. The police escort was huge! It didn't turn into a he said kind of incident or escalate to violence. Sorry to hear this!!!! Law enforcement and a lawyer are going to be the best legal thing for this situation. IMO.

Update everyone!

They called me yesterday for the first time in over a year. Claimed the passenger side knuckle on my front axle was bad and they tried to get in touch with me last year.

I showed them the text that I immediately responded, I have a brand new set, then they commented that they didn’t wanna get into an argument.

They are letting me pick up my stuff I believe a week from Saturday, on the 17th!

If anyone is around Indianapolis and wants to help me load/go out for lunch together after, hit me up!

I really appreciate everyone’s comments and well wishes

Hate to see this.

A friend of mine took his 1980 CJ7 to a shop in NW Arkansas years ago. Gave the shop $7K upfront, and the shop was going to swap in Scout Dana 44's, a rust free used tub, and a rebuilt transmission and put new seals in the transfer case. Axles were supposed to be rebuilt, steering and brakes rebuilt.

After about a year, hardly anything had been done, so he got a lawyer involved.

After about another year, he went and got the Jeep, which was a frame with well used/worn Dana 44's, a decent tub, exhaust hung with rubber bungee straps, no brakes, horrible steering, and a worn out T4. The shop also sold his wheels and put different ones on the Jeep, and when Tim asked where his wheels were, the owner said "You said you would trade them, don't you remember?" The "world class T4" that they installed was junk, and the T176 they removed disappeared.

Tim got a judgement in court for $12K against the shop.

Shop owner declared bankruptcy, and didn't pay a dime.

Shop owner now has a LOT of very nice and collectible cars, including a "Forest Service" Scrambler for sale, and apparently moved his shop from Fayetteville AR to Farmington AR.

Shops like that are everywhere. NEVER give them money up front.
