Hands on...
Well...I actually did it. I resisted and was able to put in about 6 hours work but not really that much progress in my opinion. I spent a long time fighting the old, wallowed out pilot bushing trying to get it out. The shops puller was to worn out to work so I went to the old school method of filling with grease and trying to force it out using a clutch alignment tool and a hammer. After a couple hours I had to resort to drilling it and breaking it into chunks.

Then I realized how much cleaning I still have to do that I should have been doing before. This wasn't helped after discovering that the bay I am using has a wall mounted steam cleaner!!!!!! Double

Turns out I can use that to clean the underside of the heep but i have to be there early in the morning to do it so I don't make a mess or get other folks sprayed down in the process. I'm off Monday so that will be my first priority. I'm struggling with wanting to get stuff put together but I know me, and I won't be happy if I do it and then wish I had spent some time cleaning, undercoating, and painting stuff. The back of the engine block that used to look brand freakin' new has begun to surface rust due to being outside and the constant wetness here. I don't want that to get out of hand and maybe risk a freeze plug leaking so I will paint it after steam cleaning and before assembly. I got the backing plate and bell housing all cleaned up and painted so they should be dry by the time I get back to it. I also got the Bell drilled and tapped and the adapter is ready to bolt in place. I was under the impression that the bell should have at least had two of the holes that would work and just the other two needing D&T. That wasn't the case. The two lower openings had a small hole about the size of a pencil but not big enough for a bolt and no threads? I used these first and opened the hole up and drilled all the way through then ran a tap in. Inserted and tightened the bolts and then used the same size drill to locate the center of the other (top) holes. Then it was D&T as usual. All in all not to bad since it was all aluminum though it was a little scary... I hate tapping stuff! lol!
One other thing I will have to do is clean the surface rust off the tranny. It really looks like crap despite being a very low mileage take out that used to look good. Can't justify going to all the effort to have a big, rusty turd lurking under there! Hopefully the rest of the stuff will arrive soon too. I don't really "need" it to keep going but it would be nice. I've tried tracking it on UPS and see it made it from Canada to San Francisco on the 28th but no idea where it is now...? At least I have plenty to do in the interim. really wish the shop was open all weekend and I did hear from the manager they are actually thinking about it now...Crossing fingers.
But now its time for a shower, good scrubbing, then beer-30! Need to go see how my vixen is doing also...

And no... no pics today since there wasn't much other than cussing and banging my head with the pilot bushing...

lol!
