New here. Recently inherited my father's 1983 Scrambler. It's in pretty rough shape and working on restoring it. My question, who here is part of any Facebook groups and how legitimate are they ? I have been doing some digging to try and find parts and recently run across some shifty stuff that just dont feel right. Same pictures from different people, finding same pictures on sights like eBay, just enough to make you question if I am getting scammed or not. I have been gotten twice in my life. Once from a guy on a forum similar to this in the "gun world" and another time in an archery forum. Just wanting to see if anyone has had similar experiences. I will be starting a thread to document my restoration and am excited to get it going and be more involved with this community.
 
If you post a wanted ad and 5 people say they have one, 4 or 5 will probably be scams. Look at their pictures of parts for sale. If 8 different background in the pictures, SCAM. If the have 5000 followers, 99% scam. If they are a "company" with and address or phone # listed, goggle it. If their company has changed name many times, SCAM. Some FB groups are actually scam groups with the moderators being scammers themselves. If it seems to good to be true it is. If you feel like it is real only pay with PayPal goods and services and offer the 3% PO will take from the seller this protects yourself, never PayPal as friend to somebody you don't know

That said this group doesn't take BS kindly and is full of great people.
 
Agree, the forums are a bunch of old guys but we also keep things honest.

On Facebook, if they don't take credit cards or paypal goods and services, they're a scammer.

You can do a chargeback on a credit card if you get scammed and they'll yank your money back, so scammers never accept those forms of payment. If they complain about the fees, offer to cover the fees so they get their asking price. If they still balk, they're 100% a scammer.

Paypal friends and family, zelle, cashapp, venmo etc offer zero protection, so unless you know the person with whom you're dealing, ONLY use a credit card when buying online.

A lot of the guys on here are also on Facebook. Over time you figure out who the regular trustworthy guys are on facebook, and then you figure out they're also on here.
 
Man I really appreciate the information and advice. This deal just didn’t seem right and dang sure didn’t feel right.

I am liking this forum already honestly and will be working on trying to meet more folks on here.
