When I use this calculator, I get that your RPM's should be 2864, using .86 as your T5 overdrive ratio. I wonder where the discrepancy is?

Speedo gear not matched properly? But you said you checked that? Hmm

I also get a discrepancy using this calculator, but it's been used a million times by others so I doubt it's wrong. The people at Novak usually know what they're doing.

the 258 has torque and can do well at lower RPM's.

In my experience, the T5's used behind the 6 cylinders have the .76 overdrive ratio. The 4 cylinder models have the .86 ratio.

Easy enough to figure out:

Hold engine at 3,000 RPM in 4th gear, shift to 5th, RPM will drop to around 2,280 with the ,76 5th gear ratio.
Hold engine at 3,000 RPM in 4th gear, shift to 5th, RPM will drop to around 2,580 with the ,86 5th gear ratio.

The three T5's I blew up all had the .76 5th gear ratio, which is steep if you are borderline on power band/tire size/gear ratio.

I'll check my green Scrambler and see what the ratio is.

Watched this unfold on Facebook. What an adventure, with such a great outcome! I’m jealous! This made me even more anxious to finish mine!

Did a bit of a test today. I'm on the taller side so seeing the tach while driving is a bit difficult so I snapped some pictures while driving. These are based off a gps speedometer.

At 60 mph it's right at 2500 rpm

At 65 mph is right at around 2750

And I didn't get a photo of it but at 70 mph it was just over 3000 rpm.

All of those numbers are in 5th gear. Which according to one of the websites is telling of 4.88 gears seeings how at 70 it's supposed to be 3085 rpm.

Took the 8 out for a candy bar and soda this evening and decided to pull off for some quick photos!

This has been a great story. Glad to see your living your Srambler. I've done a few drive adventures, but do the truck and trailer rescues, so at least I know my truck will run well. I would do a fly and drive though. Great story and great rig, congrats.
