Freshening Up my 1981 Scrambler Laredo

That's all good. Nice jeep nice shop nice toys nice seat covers. How much are those covers?
 
You might be able to gently heat the radio trim bezel with a heat gun and persuade it back to the original form.
 
Made good progress over the weekend. I got the POR-15 applied after applying the etch and cleaner. Everything you have heard about how hard it is to get that crap off your skin is true.... what a pain in the arse! All in all it came out looking pretty good.





 
I also took took advantage of the opportunity to get the CB antenna installed under the carpet. I ran the Firestik cable through the bulkhead using the supplied grommet. I hated drilling through clean metal but I prefer having the cable out of the way.





 
One of the hardest things to do with new carpet is getting all the mounting for the seats, console and belts through the carpet. I had my son push an icepick up through the holes from underneath the Jeep and I would chase it back out using a steel punch that I was heating up with a blow torch. In the end I got all the holes nice and cleaned out which helped get the bolts in place.

Here's the ACC carpet kit with the replacement console installed.











Seats from the Red Jeep have been swapped in, they look pretty sweet!







My Brittany Jazz was also interested in getting the Jeep finished, she's loving the co-pilots seat!

The passenger seat is sitting too high so I will pull it and remove the spacing bushings from under the seat slider.
 
The steering wheel needed some help as well, it was in good shape but the edges were starting to pull apart. I decided to install a cheap leather lace on wheel cover, my effort at lacing it up wasn't great (my eyes aren't either), but I think it works pretty well and fits my hands much better now.

The ACC kit fits like a glove, really top notch, I also had the mass backing added. I just wish they would pre-score the tranny cut outs, I always get a bit nervous cutting into carpet when you're not exactly sure where to put the hole... BTW, the ACC floor mats are 100% perfect fits, I am going to buy 2 more for the Red Jeep, seriously, they are great.

We're definitely keeping it for now, unless I come across a nice, unmolested 2006 Rubicon Unlimited :)
 
Exactly what I am looking for(6 speed version)... and I did find one, just waiting on the seller to get back to me... he seems to not check his PM's all that often, or just ignoring me...

I was going to say exactly the same thing as Randy, the radio bezel already looks off, why not take a shot at it with a heat gun?

Seats and carpet look incredible. Love your idea for doing the holes in the carpet with a heated punch.

I had the open air tube puffing away under the driver's seat too back in the day, ahh, the memories.

I installed a generic ebay seat heater kit in the wife's XJ years ago and she made me swap it over into her JKU when we got it. Still going strong a decade on and she wouldn't be without it now here in MI. :thumbsup:

Love everything about this thread... keep it up!
