Giving it a Jolt

Yes, its all pretty close. I think mine was less engineering and more trial and error but I love it. I fixed some rattles (forgot to tighten all the 12v battery bracket bolts and loose rear benches due to crushed foot rubber on the rear seats) and have been driving it a lot. Getting cold here so into the garage soon. Goal is to get the rear battery box in over the winter and hopefully get 80-90 mile range afterwards (~2mile/KWH). Not bad for a home build and a jeep profile akin to a mobile air brake.
SO MUCH STUPID engineering, every stupid second of the day, made my head hurt! It got so bad, I was solving design problems in my sleep...

Yes, all those rattles and creaks and squeaks, all previously hidden away from your ears by the never ending engine bay racket (and of course, the ever present vacuum leak noise you just can't put your finger on...). Sorry, I must have skipped over that part of your build, what is your battery configuration now? Do you have a rear battery box design yet?

I'm 3 module up front, one modules sitting right above the motor that is the bottom of the Tech Box and 3 in the 'tank' for a total of 7 Tesla battery modules - 37.4kWh Pack.

I'll say it also - I LOVE DRIVING MY CJ now, more then I have any of my CJ's or Wranglers - by far!

And, as for winter, I'm in SoCal, I say: Bring on the winter, Sweetheart, go fetch my cardigan, it's gettin' down right cool out!

yes, been on the road for a couple years. Have about 1500 miles on it, going great. I plan to do some re-wiring this winter to clean it up, enable the fuel gauge on the SpeedHut, add more battery capacity, etc... I got it on the road at about 90% done and just wanted to drive so now I need to finish up the last pieces.

I also have really loose steering, unrelated to the EV portion, that I need to figure out. I might throw electric power steering in when I do. It's manual steering now.

I'm on the edge of 10,000 EV driven miles on the Demo CJ-7, virtually ZERO maintenance.

I open my hood almost exclusively to show people all my trained squirrels working their little hearts out.

I've got a laundry list of things I want to update once I get some down time from the Fleet and Retail customer work.

Demo CJ-7 Design Changes and Updates

  • Better stickswitch design
  • Cooling redesign
    • Reverse return
      • New battery boxes
    • Remove flow indicator in tank (adds air)
    • Split system – 60/40
      • Traction Battery
      • Inverter
    • Rotate pumps output UP to remove trapped air
  • New Front Battery Box design
    • Pizza Box design
    • Tech on top
  • No Regen (K1-7 clutch lockout again) on Reverse
  • Switch to Combo OMC (OBC + DC/DC from TC Charge)
  • Better Backup Mirror
    • Arm is there, ready to hold it all up
    • Add reverse camera
  • Wire AEM CD7 dark mode to small relay off light switch
  • Add diode to secret timed relay switch power.
  • Integrate interlock-out with EPB ON
    • Should show as overlay on CD7
    • Beeping if you try to accelerate?
      • If EPB is ON, any attempt to accelerate give a beep
        • The Red LED of the EPB Sw. flashes
  • Integrate J1772 (or whatever) plugged in into Interlock (no drive off plugged in)
  • Replace TC mounting rubber from stock
  • Replace steering stabilizer
  • LED headlights
  • Explore telemetric integration
Without reservation, it's still the best Jeep I've ever driven, bar none.

- Patrick
