Gladiator

Random Jeep pics got totally out of control. I run this Scrambler forum in a way that keeps it focused and when things go off the rails I reign it in. I don’t want to limit posts at all, in general, but I do work to keep things relatively tight on Scramblers. It’s served us well since 2002.

There are thousands of places people who want Gladiators can go to find details and pictures. By all means, go to a Gladiator forum and post away. A Scrambler forum is next to useless for posting every known Gladiator photo on the internet. If there’s news or something other than just more stock Gladoators, fine.

You are most welcome to move to another forum with your Gladiator pics if you want to complain about how I manage this one.

Maybe some of the JK owners on JKForum thinking about buying one would like to see your thousand photos of Gladiators? There’s a thought for you.
 
I like the occasional “other Jeep” model posts, but this thread just feels like a FCA employee trying to drum up interest in their product.

I hope the forum stays CJ-8 centric with the occasional (squirrel) disctraction of other interesting jeeps.

I do wish some of the long term members that have left would come back as their knowledge was invaluable. But I doubt that will happen due to personality conflicts. (Can’t we all just get along)

I am not a FCA employee. In fact, I’ve been a member on this forum longer than you have. I was just trying to share pics with people who would arguably provide one of the largest support bases for a Jeep based pick-up. I gain absolutely nothing by doing so. :twocents:

Bit surprised by the total unappreciative and intolerant mindset; although, it certainly is not the first time. My apologies for you having to scroll through pics. :censored:

In the 11 years I have been a member here, I have never said anything negative to another member on this forum.

There’s the problem, you’re incorrect in this assumption IMO. I’ve gotten multiple complaints about this thread and most Scrambler people have zero or less than zero interest. (And since you brought it up, the random Jeep pic thread was *exactly* the same, people complaining to me repeatedly privately, ending up with me having to finally take action.)

To put it in context from many people’s perspective: do you think that many XJ people were excited about the new Cherokee and would have wanted this many pics of it on an XJ forum? Same basic principle here.

Nothing personal and anything new or different about it is fine.
 
I'm with bigwalton on this one. I plan to buy a Gladiator if they are not outrageously priced, but even I don't need or want to see countless repetitive photos of the exact same vehicle. Living in the wilderness has its benefits, but internet speed is not one of them. It's annoying when picture-heavy threads take a long time to load photos that show nothing new or that I have already seen in multiple postings by SKT on other forums. I'm also a member of Wrangler Forum and Gladiator Forum where SKT triple posts virtually all of the same photos. Pictures are great if they show something new or different. Very few of the photos in this thread fall into that category. I visit this thread to read opinions and info on the Gladiator from the perspective of the Scrambler crowd. While some may believe that a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll never forget what my old friend Ed Abbey once said to me: "A word is worth a thousand pictures, if it's the right word." On the Gladiator issue in this forum, I vote for fewer pictures and more words.

I politely disagree here and fully support SKT.

If you do not want to scroll through a thread dedicated to the Gladiator, then don't scroll through it.

I have never understood the people who complain about a single thread on a message board because they are unhappy with the content. If you don't like it, or don't want to read it, then don't.

It really is as simple as that.

I for one, will never buy a Gladiator, but I have enjoyed seeing all of the photos of them and I regularly visit this thread to do so.

I think Moabite's point was that he is interested in getting a Gladiator, and is interested in opinions, data, info, etc... But is not interested in as many pictures as were posted due to internet access speeds. (I may be putting words in another person's mouth, so please take this as interpretation, not an attack. My initial post was also meant as interpretation, not as an attack or accusation.)

I'm gonna politely step out of the room at this point.
 
I have had a similar "back and forth" with SKT on another forum. I gotta agree with BigWalton here. It's not that we don't appreciate a ton of pictures but on every forum and in every thread that could have pictures, SKT ends up taking over and it feels like media saturation with no context. As I understand it, you grab other's pictures off Instagram or another source and just repost them? That's good and all but it is like watching a movie with my toddlers, the first time we watch it is great then the media saturation after the 1000th time takes the joy away. This is relevant to this as a real-life photo taken by a user and posted has much more significance than a google search type posting of EVERY picture on the internet.

Heck, just look at the whole JeepPicture Requests Forum on JeepForum. Sorry to pile on SKT, and I do appreciate the effort you take to provide media to the forums, but in summary, what I am trying to add is that a genuine photo with context posted is more appreciated than an IG repost x 1000. And honestly, it ends up feeling like white noise in some threads.

I just went to Jeep Forum and went to CJ Roll call and um, Wow, he pretty much posts every Jeep on the web in that thread one after another. It is a thread meant to be to post your own CJ.

The press embargo will be lifted at midnight EST Saturday, so there should be a lot of Gladiator reviews posted immediately. And apparently pricing is also going to be released at that time. Speculation has been pretty wild on pricing...everything from low 30's to mid 70s for a base model. I'm hoping to get into a mildly well-equipped (no leather) Rubicon for no more than 60.

My wife just asked me when I was going to go put my order in. I am not quite ready. I need to check it out in person first. Oh and wait for the pricing. ?

I want the max towing. I am curious if the diesel in 2021 will give more towing capability.

From what I've read, the diesel will actually have a lower tow rating that the 3.6.

From an article in Road and Track: "The 3.o-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine, available on the Gladiator at a later date, will be a powerhouse, cranking out 442 lb-ft of torque. But it won't achieve the full 7650-lb towing capacity of the base Gladiator engine, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. Simply put, the turbodiesel's charge-air cooler eats up some of the airflow coming through the grille, slightly reducing the effective cooling area. Towing numbers are still being finalized for the diesel Gladiator, but expect its towing capacity to be about 500 pounds lower than the gasser. "

Appreciate you posting that, saw the alert from Dain’s post and knew that I’d seen what you posted mentioned about the diesel coming in lower but didn’t have the source handy.

I’m sure that’s going to surprise a number of folks who were thinking along the same lines.

Big question will be what folks can do with that diesel in the aftermarket.

Hmmmm. Well, I guess the diesel won’t be the reason I wait. Maybe the price will be enough to hold me back. I know they announce tonight and an estimate of $44k for a Rubi was leaked. Not too bad. So the sport should be less.
 
I just saw that article from Motor Trend that shows an estimate of $44K for a base Rubicon and $56K as tested. If that is true, it's great news and I'm in. Now I need to find out how much of a delay there will be if I want one of the colors listed as "late availability."

Those prices are better than I expected. If the Jeep page is updated, I will have to see about configuring one to see what "mine" would end up at.
