Here are a few more photos of the scoop. It's a close replica of the original Hurst Jeepster scoop, but instead of mounting a proprietary tach, it can hold 1 or 2 standard gauges.

No need for testing, we know it's a 100% bolt-on fit, the only part that's different is the hood - the fenders and cowl panel are the same as the ones I just installed on my LJ. And by choosing the right variant of the factory grille, all of the hardware to install the TJ radiator and A/C condenser in the grille shell will bolt right up too. :)

The design is for a pickup, so I think a sloped rear would not be as practical as a vertical one. Plus I've got a spare fiberglass Jeep-style trailer tub ready made for this application.

Part of the reason for doing a pickup with the tub I've got is for it to be a proof-of-concept for using the Jeep-tub trailer parts for both the pickup bed and to close out the rear of the tub once it's cut to pickup cab length.

If you're talking about the Hurst scoop, I'm sure that would look pretty cool on a 72/73 Commando.

But if you're talking about the complete Jeepster Commando Kit (hood/fenders/cowl panel), those are designed to fit the TJ/LJ so they wouldn't fit the old Commandos.

First off, I love looking at you builds. You always detail everything out to the nth degree and they always look fantastic.

How hard is it to adapt a TJ bumper to a CJ? What is needed to do the conversion? Looking at both the LJ-8 and the your original CJ-8, I think that installing a TJ bumper on mine is something that I would like to try.

Thank you. For me the details make the project :).

It's probably been 13 years since I installed the TJ bumpers on my CJ-8, but what I remember on the front is having to trim the back lip of the bumper slightly so it would fit over the frame rails, and having to make up some spacers to put inside the bumper because the bumper is taller than the frame rail where the mounting screws would snug down.

On the back, the CJ frame isn't wide enough for the outer bolt holes of the TJ rear bumper, so what I did is when I fabricated a trailer hitch, I made it so that it extended beyond the width of the rear frame crossmember to provide wide-enough spaced bolt holes.

I checked for photos of the mounting but apparently I never took any. All I've got on the subject is on this page: http://home.roadrunner.com/~jscherb/scrambler/exterior.htm

Very cool (both of course). Can't stop looking at your "LJ". These are exactly the kind of design cues Jeep should be using on new models IMO. Nice!
 
I've always thought those fiberglass windshield visors had a kind of cool look, so when I ran across one designed for a CJ for only $20, I had to grab it just to see what it might look like with the CJ grille and the Safari Cab. It's just held in place with masking tape for the moment.

Yup, it's made by Lund, back in the CJ days. Long discontinued now. I first saw one on a CJ-8 in JP Magazine years ago, been kind of on the lookout for one ever since. I don't plan to actually install this one on the LJ-8, I just bought it to satisfy my curiosity
