White Flame Brewing

5 minutes from our house. They are just a couple months old now. They just started refilling growlers again (high pint demand in house takes away from growler refills). Anyway, we picked up their Golden Boy tonight. They have a special brew that I want to try next week called Black Sheep IPA. It is supposed to be a Porter/IPA that is 8%.

They are not bottling or selling in any stores. No food or anything, but they do allow you to bring in something to eat or get delivery from a couple local restaurants.

Anyone else have something local like this to them? post up a story and link to them.

Somehow I was happy with the Bud Light Platinum I had, but then I saw this and started to cry.

Jolly Pumpkin Brewing right here in "downtown" Dexter

http://www.jollypumpkin.com/artisanales/beers.htm

They won a #1 Belgian Golden in the world from the New York Times for their Oro de Calabaza (which I honestly don't much care for)

Their Farmhouse and Winter are awesome and their Pumpkin (which, ironically, they just added, the brewery name has nothing to do with beer flavor, it was an ongoing joke for a long while that they didn't have a pumpkin beer) is just about the best pumpkin beer I've ever had.

Three Creeks Brewing is within 5 minutes-or less- from my house. They have some TASTY beers, good food, and my daughter works there. Talk about a proud Pop!

In Bend, about 25 minutes away, we have a ton of great breweries! There's actually a "Bend Ale Trail" http://www.visitbend.com/Bend_Oregon_Activities_Recreation/Bend-Ale-Trail/
and a Bend Brew Bus! http://www.bendbrewbus.com/

And, the Cycle Pub is built in Bend by a friend and fellow Jeeper-

Plus, for a little harder liquor, there's Bendistillery- http://www.bendistillery.com/home.html

And, a well known brewery a few hours away at the coast that also makes some awesome spiced rum and other spirits- Rogue

They make the Maple Bacon Beer! We'll be there next month for one of their many events...I'm a Rogue Nation Citizen....

Yep, the weather may not be the best here, and the 4 wheeling might be a bit restricted...but the beer ROCKS!

Microbrew - sure I'll take a few

A guy I work with is starting up a microbrewery here in town. Should be pretty good stuff.

Even a cool logo. Will be kegs, growlers and 22 oz bottles from what he tells me. Samples friday night, he is doing well at promoting the brewery.

We also have a group bike thingy that travels around for microbrews and wine tastings.

For the size of our town, I think we have a significant set of choices. If someone is heading through, or to, town, shoot me a message and I will guide you to one of the locations.

I will acknowledge Colorado has a more significant scene for the brews, but I am fine with the choices here overall.

Flag - it was a little tongue-in-cheek :) I'm surprised someone outside of Colorado thinks as highly of it as most of the people around here do! Most of them are second-rate (including New Belgium), but with enough breweries someone can always find something they like.

I happen to love the darks, and Oskar Blues makes some great ones. As does Deschutes, in Randy's neck of the woods. I love the local small microbrews because they make a lot of small batches of every variety, not just a single product line for each lager, ale, etc like New Belgium.

That being said, I'd echo Flag's offer and if anyone is heading through, I'd be happy to point you to some of the better ones

I would say Colorado is a little better known for beer than Arizona. Granted most of that probably is from macro-brews but if you compare the microbrews to the larger brands most of them seem decent to me.

I will fine tune my microbrew taste in the near future. We just had a microbrew only pub open here in town, so that should help out.

http://www.hopsonbirch.com/ - grand opening tomorrow with 22 craft beers on tap.

There is a super exclusive mini-microbrew in my basement. :)

In my area there is the Mt. Carmel Brewing Co. www.mtcarmelbrewingcompany.com
They have a great IPA.

But by far the best ever microbrew who really isn't a microbrew anymore is dogfish head. The 90 minute IPA is the best beer I've ever had. Even though they are making bigger batches the quality hasn't gone down.

We had a great brewery in my neighborhood. Dominion Brewery. But then they were bought out by the big guy (whoever owns Bud now I believe) and they moved to Deleware. But kept the name - Whatever.

Some of the local employees bought be equipment and bought the lost rhino name from someone out west and started a new microbrew. Lost Rhino Brewing Company.

I have had a few of there beers. Pretty good. I like the darker beers as well. And I enjoyed my trip to Boulder where I sampled many microbrews.

the 120 IPA is crazy!

This place is called "Mo's Place, Grill and BrewPub", in a town named Beaver, KS with a population of around 30 people. It is about 20 miles from where I am from in Kansas. There is a grain elevator, a few oil field storage yards, and Mo's Place in the town; that is about it. Its a little off of the beaten path, I think around 15 miles south of I70 but the beer and food there is awesome. Something they do a little different is the beer is not filtered, which I really like! Definitely worth the trip, especially if you are coming through Kansas on I70 or going down HW156 or K4! I have heard the old bank in the town is now used to store beer in the basement vault. It has been a while since I have been to Mo's since I am currently in Texas but last I remembered they filled growlers as well. The place also claims to supposedly be one of the smallest brew pubs in America making only around 20 gallon batches at a time.

This is a cool thread...so many links to cool beers! Makes me want to tour the country, visiting taprooms...I wonder if I could get the Food Channel to pay me to do that if I took good footage? Sort of like "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives". Wishful thinking.

My all-time favorite beer is the Vanilla Bourbon Stout from the now closed Coeut d'Alene Brewing Co. It has gotten both good and bad reviews, but for me it is an awesome flavor combination, and it drinks easy even with it's 11% alky level. If I ever get around to homebrewing, that's one I will try and replicate.

Can I volunteer to be your cohost?

Doesn't that DDD guy always have a 68 or 69 camero? Your show could feature a Scrambler in the beginning.

Oskar Blues, best beer in a can and their Ten Fidy Imperial Stout is...10.5% alcohol :)

http://www.oskarblues.com

I just found out that my friend who used to be director of quality control at Victory Brewing in PA is moving to Longmont next week to take the same position at Oskar Blues. :bacon::cheers::bacon:

Now I will have to come out there sometime to visit him and get the behind-the-scenes tour/free tasting.

I've had the Old Chub and liked it a lot. I NEED to have the Ten Fidy, that's got my name all over it.

Problem is that their beer finder didn't come up with anywhere that sells it with 100 miles of my house or our main office in Cincinnati :banghead:

Awesome thread! Sorry I missed it earlier. For me I enjoy going to Asheville NC from time to time...they have a great support and growing of breweries. I just got back today from a few days of birthday celebrating there. They've got several microbreweries there now (8?). I'm a member of State of Franklin Homebrewers here in east TN...enjoy brewing when I can with my 3 kettle baby brewery! I had a Green Man ESB, a few Highland brews and a Craggie yesterday. Mmmm! Old Jeeps and real beer are a step toward Eutopia!

Oh, I saw a nice (I think restored) brown Scrambler on the way home in Jonesborough Tn...anyone here?

Anyone ever have or heard of Pliny the Elder, from Russian River brew co in CA? I picked up three bottles as a gift for some friends on word that it was pretty good. I really don't drink much or I'd crack one open.

Been a while but I've had this and do remember it being quite good!
