.....when I moved my rust-free Scrambler from SC to NJ, it took 2 years for the body to start rusting. I refused to take my Grand National out from December until it rained at least a half-dozen times the following spring. The metal in these old heaps just don't hang well unless preventative measures are taken.

I can hold onto that Postal down here in VA during your temporary stay up north. You'll be back.

P.S. You call what you get in NC "freezing" rain? Baw haw haw haw You're about to venture into a place where water thrown from a cup freezes before it hits the ground! When you visit NC, you'll be stripping down to your T-shirt in February and running through the grass barefoot!

No thanks, I'll just park it for the winter too.

I call what we get here 40° rain, happens all winter long with little snow.

In your cup scenario, anything falling from the sky would be frozen, that's all I ask. Being soaked with rain at 40° is worse to me than being nice and dry as snow or ice bounces off of you at 20°. As I have said, cold has never bothered me and I'll take the trade for reasonable summers and no 110% humidity for two months straight (if you're lucky and it doesn't last longer).

Up here you get the cold, plus humidity (great LAKES, eh?) Kinda chills you to the bone, but I'm with you, I'd rather have snow than cold rain. Not a lot of "ice" on the roads. Once it gets cold it usually just snows, and not all that much, really. We have lotsa salt, though, just so people who don't know how to drive in snow or forgot over the summer (or last week), don't kill all of us. Best part is the gray skies from November to March. Not much sun in winter. but when it does come out, it's like a true gift from God. The good weather we do have never seems to get boring here.

Yep, I'll take cold and dry any day.

Most of what I'm excited about regarding weather comes from Kate talking to people who were at UM and are now at Duke, or vice versa. Their first hand experience boils down to: if you can take the cold and grey in winter, you'll love it in MI. I've also heard that there's a lot less snow than a southerner would think, and that's great, just as long as that's ALL you get once it's winter

Freaks like Mike can sweat in the scorching soup all summer down here between the mountains and the ocean with no breeze

I never really said it, but this is a completely certain thing now. Kate's accepted her position up there and now it's just a matter of timing.

I'm working on the job situation with my current company to see if I can open an office of some sort up there and if not, I'll be looking for something new.

We're looking at moving sometime between October and probably January at the latest.

If anyone up there knows of a house with some land or an existing pole barn/extra garage, let me know

I'm also really excited about "Go Blue" too, because down here, that's a cheer for a school I just can't support (Duke), even though Kate's there, because of my upbringing in VA. There's a good reason why 2348391 people have recommended Zingerman's.... it's regarded as one of the top deli's in America. We've had customers from NYC say that Zingerman's sandwiches are better tasting than the same fare from Carnagie Deli or Katz's deli. I'll be able to make that comparison after I visit Katz's later this week.

Ann Arbor is full of "joints" and non-franchise restaurants. Don't worry if you like the predictable, it's there too. The #1 food/beverage you'll miss will be the sweet tea- assuming you're like every other Carolinian who visits here. 'round here Iced Tea is normally served unsweetened. Oh, if you like grits then you'll be disappointed to know most restaurants don't serve them.

For a great steak, try Terry B's in Dexter, Mi or The Chop House ($$$$$$$$).

Yes, you must attend a UofM game regardless of who they play. Learn the words to "Hail to the Victors" and sing along with the other 100,000+ fans inside the stadium. (hey, you gotta do something to drown out the jeers from the 10,000 opponents' fans)

We really need to sit down and plan out the visits up there leading up to all of this. I would have liked to make one before school let out to get a feel for it when session is in, but that didn't come together...

I'll definitely be contacting people around the time when things are happening. One thing about the move down here is that I don't think that we had enough chance to really get to know the area and different places that would suit us to live. I intend to correct that this time around.

I'm curious how my accent and all will go over. is there a "Michigan" accent? I can't think of anything except the Canadian "eh" dealio.

I don't do hockey really, the last couple games leading up to the Hurricanes winning the Cup is the only hockey I've seen in probably... well, forever. Went to minor league games in Richmond as a kid a couple times... I imagine I'll get the same thing as I get here since I'm not into NASCAR, people look at me funny when they find that out.

Check out some college games, they are some of the best to go see. The Frozen Four is in DC in I think two years, we're already making plans to get tickets. Try a minor league team, I'm sure there will be one around in Michigan, another great way to see the sport and get into it. And unlike NASCAR you can actually play some!

Has anyone mentioned what's really going on here?? I think the Postal is exerting it's will, bringing you one step closer in a migration back to it's homeland!!
